Charity Shoot

I’m considering the idea of holding a charity shoot to replace a very popular one which was never resurrected following the pandemic, and just wanted to pick the brains of those who have experience of organising such an event.
I know of straw bale shoot organisers who say the insurance kills them, and I know someone who has his own very successful shoot, and I could ( and will ) of course simply ask him aswell as those who organised the now defunct one, but would like advice of the ups and downs etc of as many folk as possible.
Cheers

Don't aim for cheap. If it's for charity people are doing a good thing by participating. You can add value, sure, but don't get the "clays should be 20p each" people in your ear undermining what you are trying to do: bring in money!

I was at my local shooting ground just this very afternoon. Not shooting but dropping off a lot of logs as they run a CPSA Registered Shoot the last Friday of each month for which the entry cost is £45 for 100 clays. So that gives you an idea of what others charge.

Scully, I am a L1 instructor, ESP ref and safety officer.

I will happily donate my time and if it’s not a million miles away (and if I’m not working of course) to the cause.

I havent  ever set one up, but I am happy to do what I can to assist in a charity shoot!
I can also bring along my shooting team from my camp!

What a star! Thank you, that’s very kind. That would be a great attraction! Will get back to you if it ever gets off the ground and all else being doable.

Thank you. 👍

Location would be Cumbria.
Don’t feel obliged to commit; it’s a big undertaking and I can’t guarantee you’d receive any reward, as none of us would, but thank you all the same.

A idea would be to contact some major grounds and ask if they would host the shoot similar to the 410 shoot (Richard grey ) runs or the side by side shoot at Atkin grant and Lang

possibly include the YouTube channels in the invite list for possible additional advertising

That’s a very good idea OF. I had viewed the ‘do’ at the same venue as the defunct one ( simply because it attracted good numbers of locals ) but for logistical reasons it makes perfect sense to hold it at a dedicated ground. 👍

The simplest way will be to hold it on an existing ground and use their equipment and piggy back off their insurance.

Good luck.

I don’t feel obliged to commit, if it’s Cumbria, I will happily to a nice road trip on the bike, stay over night before and after and ride back! Shooting, charity and motorbike rides…..perfect!

And I wouldn’t want a single penny for it, it’s all for charity!

Fabulous! Will let you know if, how and when it progresses. Thank you indeed.

I have run a few charity shoots when I ran a small shooting ground.  I would most DEFINITELY go to an existing ground if at all possible, that saves all of the hassle of having your chosen plot checked by the local Costabulary, possible parking, exit and entry issues and complaints from the neighbours. May I suggest you have teams of 4 or 5 shooters. A 50 bird sporting shoot, followed by a team flush. You decide what your 'team entry' price will be before you advertise the shoot. Try to get the teams to book and pay in advance, it saves a lot of hassle on the day. You could also consider a' have a go ' stand where you can have 10 or 15 shots, with tuition, pay on the day. I used a 12 bore Beretta gas auto with 21 gram cartridges for that, you don't worry about the light load not cycling the gun, you only load 1 round at a time anyway. If I can make whatever date you choose, I will. I too am a CPSA Instructor. PM me if I can help with the organising.

Excellent, just need to check that wherever the ground is, their minimum age rules are adhered to.

Thats fabulous Westley! My sincere thanks to both you and BobbyH.
There are now a couple of grounds  I have in mind, and will approach the ground owner/s when I’m next shooting there.

I lost a shooting friend last year to MND, I'm only too happy to help.

I would suggest having the stands fairly central, if it is a 50 birder have at least 7 stands to help with queues and  the less walking to spread out stands is best as you will get more 're.entries. Make sure at least one or two of your stands are tough to avoid shoot outs and also a couple of gimme stands to keep everyone happy. Last of all ENJOY..

Sorry put my 2 Penrith into Westies post by mistake.

I would ask Jonty at Crabtree first if they would partake in your charity shoot.

Yes, Crabtree would be my first choice I think.
I have both Jontys and Mattys numbers, but would rather speak to them in person when next at their respective grounds. 👍
