This can’t be right, regulated PCP

Well here goes , another 2nd hand PW purchase …. if you read about the hawke scope that didn’t go well.

just had delivered a almost new condition norica dark bull , regulated PCP in .22

Cleaned the barrel , Pumped it upto its max 250 ready to do some pellet testing.

put around 20 shots through it .
seemed Impossible to zero .
got my fx chronograph and bellow are my findings . (I no the chronograph is good , brought my regulated ultra out to double check )

seems like the first couple of shots per mag are low power then it creeps up and then is a bit all over the place .
Then when you reload the mag the process starts again

I’m around 100 shots in tonight . Second fill of air  , Iv given up on pellet testing and just seeing if different air pressures in the gun and different hammer spring tensions changes anything or make it more consistent  ….. it doesn’t . (I no it went above legal limits that wasn’t my intention ) like I say it was a testing different tensions . But it still did the same dance ?

Any suggestions?

many thanks SS 🐿️

depending how long the gun has sat without being used regulators can seize up  i have found that most regulated guns need too be dry fired a few times once they are topped up with air as the power level is low then climbs  i would get a set of seals and strip it down and give it a good clean or return it to the seller if they said it was in perfect working order

Never even heard of them??

As above, if it was from a shop I'd send it back, not sure how easily you can adjust the power but it could get you in trouble.

Unfortunately not from a shop from an another members friend.
it’s a £1000 gun new .

I think roughly 4 years old.  And hammer spring has a screwdriver slot in it so very easy to adjust .

i think your correct about lack of use . Ratworks told me dry fire my pcp 10 times every couple of weeks to keep it in good order .
Seller never said it was in perfect working order as it wasn’t actually his gun . Selling on behalf of a friend .

I was hoping it was just going to fix itself the more shots that went through it . But that happened

Hello, Then why did you buy it ?? You could have bought a brand new PCP with a Warranty, Get your money back or take a hit and get it repaired, It will not fix itself as you put it

What do you mean why did I buy it ?
why do we buy anything ? Because we want them I guess , And it’s not actually for me it’s for a friend .
Long and short it I bought a gun thats nearly £1000 new for a good price , I don’t believe it was a “too good to be true “thing but maybe I’m wrong .

im confident the seller didn’t no there was any issues with it as he was selling it for a family friend . (That’s what he told me and I have no reason not to believe him)

On my original post I was just checking my findings wasnt  normal for a regulated gun as my only experience is with my regulated ultra from Ratworks .

like you say . Suck it up and send it somewhere

cheers SS 🐿️

That could be a loose barrel

If the accuracy is shocking and you get shots that are much lower speed than others . Maybe a loose barrel and a transfer port is bleeding air randomly when you fire .

Just a thought .

obviously  it could be a reg or a knock open valve  worn out .Split orings . etc .

Thanks for all the replies ….
do in the end I took the gun over to the lads at Ratworks this afternoon.
They came to the conclusion it was something along the lines of this answer about reg creep and fished out a similar reg to show me .
all very knowledgeable and helpful
but unfortunately also said they wouldn’t be willing to take it on as there could be lots of versions of reg fitted and I guess it’s just not worth the hassle for them .
they have given me a name of another gunsmith and I’m going to get in touch with them tomorrow and just got from there ….. nightmare really 🤮🙈

Could be reg creep with the 1st shots low

Basically air seeps through the reg so you have a higher pressure that the valve/hammer spring struggles slightly to open against.

Hello, Interesting to hear Ratworks reply, I bet if you contacted the Manufacture they would tell you the type of regulator fitted in your rifle, i cannot see there are that many versions in Norica Air rifles, I just looked on the Web site, Made in Spain and has a Technical Support Team and Email address and a Contact Form,  That would be my first port of call before going to another RFD , You never know Norica might even send you a new one or get the UK importer to help,

They basically said . Something along the lines of it’s possibly a Chinese replica type chassis with various different manufacturers parts inside or something along those lines .
they said company’s like that basically buy a batch of regulators . For them . Then buy another batch from another manufacturer when they need more . And so on and so on.
I actually emailed norica the same time I posted on here but no reply as of yet .
we will wait and see .

Hopefully a simple fix .....looking at the crono readings you should of got some sort of zero between all the shots ... Check the crown ,check for clipping on the shroud and clean the barrel if it's new 👍 .... It could also be a very pellet fussy barrel

Yes you’re right . I can get a zero … I’m the middle of the mag . But by the time I have re loaded it . The first 2/3 shots are all over the place . I havnt tested how it would perform with 1 shot per 2 minute . But how they described reg creek makes absolute sence something is poorly internally .

Have a chat with Airgun Doctor, Cannock Chase. Very approachable and sorted a Reg problem out for me (twice)

Years back I had Ben Taylor fit a Reg to my AA S410. About three years ago it started playing up and the Reg problem was resolved by AGD. Then, last year another, different, problem with the Reg. Again, AGD to the rescue. Quick turnaround and he held the price. Really nice guy.

Just got of the phone to him . Sounds like top bloke .  But said he won’t touch norica . Says it should be a simple job but everything like that he’s touched has turned into a massive pain in the **** . .

Surely replacing the O rings on the Reg would solve the problem, the type of Reg is not important?

Yes I think you’re possibly correct . It’s just finding someone to do it .
im pretty handy with stuff but not sure I have the skills to strip this and be confident it will go back together
