GrayA
19 hours ago, mel b3 said: I find what he did much less offensive than the prime minister taking back handers of free glasses and free suits etc . That's just pure straightforward corruption. Nothing more than you'd expect from two tier kier though . People that wear free glasses , shouldn't throw stones. Starmer didn't break a single rule, so how on earth is it "Corruption?" Now argue that the rules are wrong but thats down to Parliament to change. Starmer also didn't take gifts whilst PM. I cannot stand the guy & feel Labour got elected purely because of our very strange voting system.... he cannot lead the country when just 33% voted for him... but making stuff up about politicians you don't like isn't being even handed or fair. TIGHTCHOKE
According to The Daily Telegraph, external, left-wing members of the Tameside Council in Greater Manchester are accused of leaking posts from the WhatsApp group, which led to the sacking of Gwynne. The paper says he's been in "a bitter row" with other members over plans for pension reforms, and the incident has laid bare the division within Labour over Sir Keir's tilt towards economic growth. If you think that accepting free gifts for favours is OK, then that's up to you . I see it as taking bribes for political favours , and corrupt. You can see it how ever you want but corruption has a defined meaning & its not your version, in what way did Starmer act dishonestly and fraudulently? esp as he took these gifts whilst leader of the opposition Starmer took gifts, declared them in the list of members interests, thats how we all got to hear about them. What political favours did Starmer give anyone? Like i said, its the rules that are wrong. Btw, i don't agree with any politician taking any gifts whatsoever but if they are allowed too, then they should be taxed, any of us taking these amounts in gifts would have to declare them to HMRC. Rewulf
3 hours ago, GrayA said: What political favours did Starmer give anyone? You do understand that the very idea of giving or doing favours in return for, lets say, party donations, gifts, or use of properties, isnt always declared ? When it is, in lets say the Lord Alli case, it doesnt always come to light until scrutiny is applied, Also, why do you think Alli is a lord (1998)? Favours for Blair of course. Every side does it, but we just see the tip of the iceberg.

JohnfromUK
9 hours ago, armsid said: could this trigger by elections There is a list of 'things' that can trigger a "Recall Petition" - can be found by Google search etc. (It's not short or without complexity, so I didn't paste here). Suspension of Party whip is not a trigger. Suspension from Parliament is a trigger if over 10 working days (as the MP could not then represent constituents presumably). It's quite a long list because it refers out to the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009 and I'm not clear what punishment has actually been applied in these cases - but if they can still sit in Parliament as "Independent" and have not been convicted of an offence, I don't think a Recall Petition can be triggered. Newbie to this
Seems Wes Streeting is on the naughty list as well. Apparently he made some comments on Twitter about wanting to push some reporter under a Train. The tolerant left is a wonderful thing.......
