2shots
Sorry Bignoel but, You need to report this straight away or the police can revoke the licence altogether and remove your guns, if someone finds it and tries to use it before they can put a stop on it youve got a problem if you have reported it ignore this, if not youll need to be on the ball, and if someone else hands it in before its reported itll cause you massive problems. A friend of mine got his stolen in a burglary which ended up revoked because it should have been locked away with his guns and not on the kitchen bench. Cranfield
You should report the loss immediately and the best of luck in going back to find it.

stokeshooter
Dont worry just report it lost mine same sort of thing went local police station told them charged me £15 for copy fao rung me 2days later arranged day for licence to be delivered no probs
starlight32
Under lock and key? Never heard of that one. So when you present your licence for a firearms or ammunition purchase the fact that the person trying to obtain looks nothing like the person on the licence everything is ok form the RFD? Most licencing forces now scan your photo onto the licence so they cannot be forged by substituting photo.

bob300w
Condition 2 on your SGC states that you must inform the Chief Officer of Police of the loss within seven days, do this ASAP and they will send a replacement, it's no big deal. There is no requirement for keeping a SGC under lock and key and never has been, this is pure fantasy. If I were you, or anybody reading this, in future I would carry a photocopy, details can just as easily be checked from this as from the original. Also carry your FAO's phone number, him confirming your ID can save a lot of time.
Dirty Harry
How many people actually carry their licence when shooting? I dont. I always leave mine in the car so if I am out and about and want to buy some ammo I have it with me in the vehicle. When shooting I am never to far from my car and can get it if required. Being a photo licence that doesn't get checked when you buy ammo etc they are pretty useless without you there. Glad its been found but as said you have 7 days to report it but who is to say when you realised you had lost it. This post is mostly a case of chinese whispers as you don't have to keep it locked away and loosing it doesn't result in your guns being removed. If your licence was that valuable why do essex police send your new one back to you in normal post in an envelope marked firearms dept? I have lost mine at the moment due to the acts of a senile old ****** forgetting where he put it
triscrx
I carry photocopies when out shooting incase im challenged by anybody and in the event I lose them when out they cant be used by anyone else to purchase guns/ammo. The originals I leave in the cabinet at home. I always have enough ammo when I leave the house to go shooting. Good luck finding it id have a look prior to reporting it missing incase you find it right away when searching where you think it is.

2shots
Well its obvious none of you are with northumbria police Ive never heard so much **** in my life that a lost licence would just be replaced without question, I can just imagine the anti headline tomorrow STOLEN OR LOST GUN LICENCES TOTALLY IGNORED AND REPLACED WITHOUT QUESTION BY LOCAL PLOD (GET REAL) it obviously hasnt happened to you,,as for not being needed to buy ammo etc Id be careful mentioning that on this site unless you still want a dealer to go to tomorrow. And by the way lost and stolen licences do get reported to local dealers etc or they did when I worked for three of them.Too many internet answer searchers and dreamers offering duff advice on this site,I suggest you all chuck your firearms licences in the bin then report them lost or stolen after 7 days and see what happens. marky123
I left mine somewhere and wasnt getting it back,so I went to the police station and they basically werent interested so I paid for a copy.Without question.
PaulABF
I lost my SGC last year. I threw my old knackered bag in the bin and the license was in the side flap. When I realised what I'd done I contacted my FEO at Northumbria police and she told me to send a cheque for £8 along with a note explaining what had happened. Just over a week later I received a shiny new licence, no problems at all.

Which part of lost or stolen would that be if you threw it in the bin? May I be so bold as to suggest that you are the one who needs to get real as you put it. As there are too many internet answer searchers on this site why don't you leave it and find a new one, you'll be back just like the others when you realise the other sites are ****.
