rayo
I am thinking about getting a vehicle for shooting as i am getting a little bit sick of humping all my pigeon shooting gear over fields on a fishing trolley I looked at a Izuzu Trooper the other day but after waying up how much it would cost to run have decided on something smaller and more economical Have any of you guys had experience with the Jimmneys if so are they any good for lugging gear over fields Any advice appreciated Cheers
mike.c
quite a few of the hunt followers are using them down here in devon as cheap to buy run etc but all depends how much gear you got to carry
rayo
I think it would be big enough to carry my gear ,mind you i always seem to take to much

V8landy
No reference to speed, just simply the "name" of Land Rover. Mine might have a V8 in and sound like a TVR, but it still has a 40 year old Tractor gearbox in. Yes they can be sheds on wheels but it makes you proud to be British to drive one! scout
Landy is definetely the way forward. Great British car that will go almost anywhere , cheap to keep going and not too thirsty. Little draughty in the winter, but you can't have everything. ozzy518
another vote for the Landy here...Use mine solely for shooting. Dont have to worry about getting mud on the carpets ( aint got any) and if it gets scratched, just repaint it.. Being ex mod, I can take the door tops or even the entire doors off and take the hood off too for that open air feel....However , in the winter, you gonna need a warm coat on, and you will get wet with water coming in the doors. Parts are cheap as is insurance..

mickeylove
Ive got a landy myself but went on an off roading day in north yorkshire where they used suzukis and was well impressed with the amount of abuse they took, never got stuck despite water bonnet deep and a petrol engine. Admiral Von Tirpitz
Test Drove a Jimny this week. Cute, sweet little cars, plus I am told good off road. 05 plate on are best ones. Admiral

Mungler
Get a sportrak - a cheap and reliable go anywhere wagon. Get a Landy if you fancy your local AA rep and hate having free time at the weekends
mr lee
I have a vitara now after looking at a Landy. As robust as they can be (or not if you buy a lemon) they are bloody heavy when on wet ground and cause a serious imprint/ruts where they go. My little vit left two brown tyre marks on a field the other day on our permission whereas the farmers landy churned everything up into deep ruts. We can fit 2 peoples shooting gear in the back with no problem too but we removed the seats and carpet and boarded the rear out fully. henry d
Changed from a Vitara to a Jimny this year and it goes places the Vit would stick/ground and thats with road tyres, only down point is the space, but it will get 2 pigeon shooters and 2x gear in it at a squeeze and a dog in the passenger footwell too....... don`t know how we`ll get 30+ goose shell deeks etc. in there though
Salop Matt
What ever you get regardless of fuel consuption your still going to fork out £400 per year road tax ! Would it be easyr to spend the money on a quad and trailer then tow the quad with your existing car. If the trailer isnt that heavy you could look to tow the trailer behind the quad to for hauling your equipment ! then no cost of insurance or road tax ! Or speak to the land owner of your permision and see if you can store a quad there and make a small trailer for it !
