Billy.
Started my new job back into the recruitment industry and back into my sort of work! Anyway, I got an email yesterday saying "Just to let the new starters know that because there is no formal dress code, all employees are asked to pay £5 to charity at the end of every month. Please put down your preferred charity and we will put yours into a hat along with the others and pick one out on a monthly basis." So I put down for the Countryside Alliance Charity and gave the reg. charity number, plus a little joking message back to my friend who I've known for years, who works for the company. Clicked 'reply to all' (only 2 people, myself and another girl who started a couple of days after me) "How on earth did you know the charity number" Asked the new girl from across the office? I told her that I looked it up on the internet (duh) "What on earth is the Countryside Alliance?" She asked So I told her.... She responded "Oh, so that means you're against fox hunting and shooting?" She asked (clearly couldn't understand what "pro" means) When I said no, I support it, she told me to * off across the office and gave a lovely pair of V's, meant in a serious way...! The girl who sits next to her picked up on what she was saying and said "Will? Hunting? No way! How could you?? That's horrible!" Then a guy who sits next to me sometimes sparked up about how cruel and unnecessary it is and why on earth a farmer would need pigeons and rabbits killing.... Then a guy on the other side of the office asked the same question, saying how cruel it is Fortunately my boss then perked up and said, "what's wrong with you all?! They need shooting as they do so much damage and the foxes kill so many birds and just eat a couple." So I'm sitting with the enemy... I'll make sure I share my shooting pictures with them regularly

alexm
I had this with our bunny hugging receptionist... (She seriously hugs bunnies, donates to rabbit charities etc. ). She hates me already because she knows I feed frozen rabbits to my Burmese python.... Anyway, she signed for a large carcass tray I had delivered to work for stalking. Then the inevitable question came... "what is that for?" We've barely spoken since. Edited March 27, 2009 by alexm

dave1979
why is everyone callin me stupid?? ha ha!!!
vole
I hate the self righteousness of them when someone you think is ok turns nasty over hunting.I think this kind of stupidity is restricted mainly to the more neurotic countries like this one.Well done for flying the flag, you can spend your day picking holes in their stupid sentimental arguments. Unless they are strict vegans just treat them with contempt. At least anything you shoot is organic and has had a decent life and death. There are some seriously screwed up people out there. sambu13
i think vegetarians are the least bad ones! if thats how they feel, that animals shouldnt be eated for whatever reason then fine. but as soon as they start preaching, and telling everyone else to be like them or they are evil thats when it gets annoying! amateur
So, Will, judging by the time that you posted your topic, not only have you upset the bunny-huggers, but you are also on-line to PW at work. An employment agency you say? - better get looking
Salop Matt
I to work with a load of tree hugging hippi hipicrits ! They pull there faces over pigeon and crow shooting but really wrinkle there gums over bunnys. How ever i got asked about fox the other day. . . . .. . . . . I barely made it out the office in tact ! All but one are meat eaters and 2 young girls said they arnt bothered about anything meat wise from a super market other than the price they pay. They just want the cheapest meat possible and dont think of it as a peice of dead animal and how it lived / died. I just keep a low profile now ! kernel gadaffi
A girl in the office I worked in stopped speaking to me because I am a hunter/gatherer, I asked her if she ate meat and she said, "chicken", I then told her that what I shoot has the run of the land, dies in a flash when shot and isn't kept in a cramped building all day crowded and living on a stinking **** riddled floor like the majority of chickens. End of conversation.
Evil Elvis
Interestingly enough im in the same work environment as voley and its quite amusing the indians are quiet cool with it, the africans think that the whites that have a go at me about it are mad as all animals are for food, one of them even ownes a shooting ranch in Zimbabwe!!! We have 3 people that actually have house rabbits but are cool with shooting vermin. The other lady is a veggie and quiet respectfully and politley asked me not to talk about it in front of her which i have respected and she in turn gives me no grief over it. The Drs on the other hand, english Drs are 99% ok with it all and several of them want to come shooting wth me, as are most of the africans. The indians however even ones raised here dont seem to like guns much at all. Sweeping generalisation restricted to my unit!!! A waffle I know but interesting........
MM
as you dont have a dress code at work, why not turn up in all your gear, see what the response is?
LeeinVA
I am on a committee to cull the Deer herd where i live, and we meet road blocks all the time.. One Peta lady inadvertantly sent me an email, which was clearly meant for her friends.. It told them how hunters were baby killers, and that it is no different from what the soldiers are doing in Iraq, and thats shooting women and children.. Needless to say, at the next BOD meeting i read the letter out loud.. She, Mrs. Clark was mortified, and declared that she had never written such a thing. And with documentation showed her that the American hunter puts billions of dollars into the system every year when we buy our big game tags.. Then i asked how much money she had put in? She said she Volunteers for PETA and hands out pamphlets Then i dropped the bomb.. I told her that because i hunt not a single animal has been made indangered, because i was a vet i gave her the right to act like such a damn fool, and lastly, verbally laid her out for disrespecting our military, and to my chagrin, was expelled from the committee.. I welcome it as i do my own brand of Culling anyway
AVB
I often bring game into the office during the season and hang them on a coat stand for people to help themselves to. They soon get taken. When I started doing it there were a few screams from some of the more squeemish but that soon stopped. Interestingly they have just removed all of the coat stands for 'elf & Safety' reasons! Sundowner
Do what I do. I make the best smelling pigeon pies, rabbit casseroles etc and when I have to warm it up in the microwave in the office kitchen everybody around wants a taste and asks what is that lovely smell? Some even tried some pie and want more of it !!!!!!!
RhiannonBW
Sounds like a perfect opportunity for a bit of education. And you can always tell them you know at least one vegetarian who thinks hunting and shooting is more ethical than eating the crappy meat that most supermarkets are full of these days. For any that are vegetarian you can point out that without pest control the rabbits and pigeons would munch all our lovely food too. scifiden
I had words once with the "lady" over the road from my garage where i hang my game so now i leave the door open for a few hours so she can get a good long look from her living room window. Incidently this got me customers from the street who regulary buy it from me know

Harnser
Thank god i spent my whole working life working with men who were realists and patriots . We did not have to suffer the silly comments from silly little girls about cruelty to animals because they were shot . When these same silly people would go into the supermarket and buy the nicely wrapped supermarket meat for their husbands tea . God they make me puke . Harnser . I could say the same for my unit too.The Indians dont eat anything other than stuff they have always eaten so turn down my offers of a bunny.Same with the Phillipinos. As with you,the Drs are keen, maybe to do with the upper middle class connection.Everyone knows I go shooting, even though I am busier trapping moles and I think only one person has been upset, though politely. She is a timid old flower power type and because she eats chicken I take her objections with a handful of salt.Like with Elvis the ones I know dont like guns.I think because they come from countries with paramilitary elements. They cant understand the anti shooting issue though. Has anyone else noticed how overseas workers mainly stick to their own food? Edited March 27, 2009 by vole21
