lord_seagrave
BBC story HERE Whilst it cheers me to learn the Lord Chancellor gives such personal and careful consideration to each and every prisoner, and whilst I am (IMHO) a compassionate sort of chap, I have to disagree with the decision to “release” Biggs. The cynicism he displayed in returning to the UK alone is enough to warrant his detention for the full term, quite apart from his widely-reported lack of remorse for his crime. The only convincing argument for his release, as far as I am concerned, is that his sentence dates from a period when penalties were many times more severe than the modern equivalents. His term would have most likely been reduced had he served his original sentence anyway THE OTHER ‘ROBBERS’ But Jack, if you're interested, it's still a no. Dunkield
I don't think he will live that long. Looking at the others, I am now deeply suspicious of anyone selling flowers, or living in Spain
MC
I really cannot comment on this vile piece of scum who should be left to rot where he is as I will probably get banned. It really seems that you can commit a crime, live the high life all around the world on your ill gotten gains and as soon as you get ill come back to good old blighty and get arrested. Then when you are at deaths door you will be released from jail. With all the media hyping good old Ronnie Biggs. It really makes my blood boil
Doc Holliday
It astounds me that we even let this bloke back in the country. He spent 30 odd years evading & taunting the old bill from Brazil and as soon as his health needs some first class medical attention he comes crawling back, cap in hand to sponge off the state. I have no sympathy for him or his family. As far as I'm concerned he should have been sent back to Brazil with a toe up his ****.

Imperfection
Personally,i dont think he should be released and ought to die in custody at the very least. He only wanted to return to the UK because he became ill and needed expensive care which neither he or his family could afford. For decades he stuck his two fingers up at the British goverment and lived off the noterity of being a train robber so no-he should serve his sentence and if that means dying before its finished then so be it. AIRARMSTX200
he should have been kept to die in prison then after he's dead bury him in the prison grounds so he's never going to leave that place.
amateur
My understanding of the situation is that he was already out of prison, under guard by 3 prison officers, at the Norwich hospital - so that the only difference in in his status is that he will no longer be guarded. If he is on his last legs that should not matter, and presumably there will be a saving to the tax-payer

MC
According to the early evening news he is having surgery tomorrow and should be able to leave hospital next week sometime. Amazing how you can recover when given your freedom back. With a bit of luck someone will get his morphine dose wrong, by about 10 times. Delbert
Can't say I'm at all surprised that a decredited bunch of thieves have found yet another way to get their smug faces in the paper - and I don't mean the Great Train Robbers. I only wonder what we story of misbehaviour have we missed as a result of the latest smokescreen?
