  1. Yeah it's called pithing, and it's the right spelling. Many still use it to dispatch fish.
  2. I've never seen a percussion cap triple barrel that isn't a pistol, that's very interesting! You have any idea of it's value?, how did you come across it? Thanks for sharing! (and best of luck with the restoration!)
  3. Flew up from Brighton perhaps?
  4. The reason that they are becoming less and less, is that there is simply not enough room between the organic dog shampoo stall and dodgy tents selling piles of stolen tools and last years poundland inventory.

    Other forums

My favourite thread I've ever seen on another shooting forum was one asking for legal advice as this fellow and his mate had been nicked for poaching deer with dogs. I'll give you three guesses which forum.

    Jobs

Shooting times and BASC was the main place I found the majority of vacancies, but sometimes I saw them floating about elsewhere. Most of the people I knew who got jobs in keeping where already heavily involved in working in the countryside, so It'll seems to pay to make sure you are doing something that keeps your name floating about, be it harvest work/beating/labouring (etc).
  7. *Cough* Rocket league *Cough Cough*
  8. Hey guys. I'm fortunate enough to find myself with another long absence between deployments, and as such I'm pretty free at the moment, so If anyone knows of anywhere that wants an extra beater, could you please let me know. I'd rather a regular slot, but I'm aware it's late in the season so that's probably not practical. I'm relatively young fit and healthy, I've been beating many, many times before, and I'm not bothered what sort of shoot it is. I live close to Snetterton on the A11, but I'm willing to travel moderate distances. If you need to know anything else, please let me know, Many thanks in advance, Andrew
  9. ISIS trained pigeons will start country wide terror attacks, leading to all pigeon shooters becoming national heroes.
  10. Cover it in tweed, put a Barbour sticker on it, say it's for sloe-gin and sell it for £350.
  11. People stopped using them, they closed. Start using them again, they'll open. It's really rather simple.

    Dunkirk 75th

Don't worry, Those who lived and died within the "Durkirk Spirit" days said the same about your generation too. Can we have a week without a another "Country's going to the dogs but in no way am I responsible" circlejerk?
  13. Find out what he is thinking and go from there. I've seen people pay stupid prices, and seen people expect stupid prices - due to the fact it's an extension of garden.

    New Tattoo

What's HBO paying you? I'm looking forward to seeing the Steve Buscemi tattoo from Boardwalk empire on your ****. Come to think of it, what's even funnier is when you have to explain to people who they are in 10 years time.
  15. Yeah it is, it's not that big. That eel is only 7ft long (i.e a normal man + 12'')). The picture they posted has is at a forced perspective, and makes the eel look ungodly big (like 20ft). I'm just a party pooper.
  16. 5 Military helicopters in a V formation flying over my head at about 200ft. - The I saw them flying in from some distance away, Apocalypse now style. The best bit is they spooked every pigeon for 5 miles. Had a mad half hour after that.
  17. What? 25k with accommodation in London - that must be worth £33k of anyone's money. (No expensive commute either!) I'm guessing you've never looked into this sort of job, but I've seen jobs for underkeepers go as "self employed" roles at £8k p/a with "accommodation" (caravan).
  18. Its a fair point asking why one Scottish vote is worth 100 English votes when it comes to seats. SNP 1.5mil - 56 seats Ukip 3.5mil - 1 seat Green 1mil - 1 seat
  19. I'm surprised it hasn't been asked before, but is he a talented machinist? - Is he happy (and experienced) at woodwork, stock bluing and the like?
  20. Regulation by the state =/= State control. It's the same thing, You see - thaisdn ;hbenfrsxc m, -. I can't be bothered.
  21. Wot? Russia is capitalist through and through now, and North Korea is Dictatorship/Stalinist no matter what they call themselves. We live in a borderline socialist society whether you like it or not... Example - As, I wake up this morning, according to my clock time set to GMT that's set by the National Physical Laboratory and powered from electricity that's supplied by the National grid and regulated by the Department of energy. I head down stairs in my house that doesn't collapse because it was built to regulations set by the Building regulation advisory committee and enforced by Mid Suffolk country council. I open my fridge (that doesn't explode or leak deadly gas thanks to Trading Standards / REACH ) and cook up some eggs that are safe from Salmonella thanks to the work of the Food standards agency and The Department of the environment and rural affairs. After finishing I get in my car that's been checked safe by the Ministry of Transport required tests and set off on roads that are regulated by the ...... Well, you get my condescending point. Anyway, the point is it's all about a balance and the argument is how much balance we need to the left or the right. Now, obviously all the way over on both just don't plain work, and the argument about how much socialism vs capitalism we need is a long and boring one for another night. But I hate the argument that socialism = bad. If you count the countries that the government has the most direct influence on everyday aspects of a normal persons life without being a dictatorship/Stalinist (and even then, most dictatorships are poor and don't care what you do as long as you don't oppose them.) You'll realise I'm talking about most of the first world. But it's a complex issue, I don't feel like arguing and I'm not going to convince you otherwise. I'm going to eat Malt-loaf and watch what ever is on the telly. (Hopefully Police interceptors)
  22. Never said anything about other parties. I just don't understand the logic that voting for a party headed by the rich and ultra privileged will somehow improve lives for everyone else. You can start blaming the banks and the bankers and so on, but frankly if you follow the smiley road far enough you'll soon realise they are not just all voting for conservatives but there all ******* well public school-boy chums. How many conservatives do you think are effected by the lack of council houses? (I'll give you a clue, it's not as many that would be effected if someone put a forced property purchase on all the empty houses in London!) Also socialism isn't a dirty word. You want a country without socialism go move to Afghanistan. I work for the RMT and part time work is Lush. (Joking - joking, I work on British ships for the MoD - something the conservatives quiet like cutting too!) Anyway, to quote a senior Tory MP speaking his Lib-dem counterpart :- "Listen, you take care of the workers, and we'll take care of the bosses"
  23. "Vote conservative, because if you believe a bunch of silver spoon holding eton toffs have your best interests at heart, then you'll be perfectly happy when the re-introduce the feudal system"
  24. I'd go to West Ireland. You can drive from Belfast, up north, round the West and all the way round to Cork - pretty much hugging the coast the whole time. Stunning scenery and Guiness. Easy Ferry access too.
