  1. I think both options (culling and vaccination) are extremely optimistic. Badgers are very secretive and how on earth DEFRA think they are going to find them all is beyond me.
  2. There is a butcher near us called "Meat like it used to be" cheap its not.
  3. Its not duty free, the tax on white diesel is an additional tax you are correct,
  4. Similarly, Scandanavian, and increasingly American. Lots of Indian and Arab words too. Even the word English is German (Anglish) meaning the language of the Angles of North Germany. But the point is the words get assimilated as they are,
  5. There are thousands of examples like that, photograph becomes ffotograff. There is a subtle difference between wanting to preserve an ancient language, which is admirable, and losing sight of why you want to preserve it.
  6. To me there is a difference between a language evolving and a committee sitting round a table four times a year to make up a word specifically so its not the same as the English word
  7. AFAIK Canal boats etc have always run on red diesel, You can run anything on red diesel as long as it doesn't have wheels on the public highway.
  8. The reason for place names being so long (for those who don't know) is because they are a description of what's there. "The church with an oak tree by the river" etc
  9. 😃 I've heard it as pingy ponger but yes exactly.
  10. Oh Boy you have got that right! only some though, not a lot, but the few are very vocal The trouble with Welsh is that it is an ancient language so "real" Welsh becomes less usable in modern conversation. It comes from a time when there were no cars, TVs, supermarkets etc. So more and more is just made up words by the Welsh Language Society to plug the gaps. They are fighting a losing battle which is why they are so defensive.
  11. Not far from West London sporting clays either
  12. To be honest, there never was any real prospect of containing it
  13. And other people, it is speculated, can have it with no apparent symptoms. Or symptoms so light they don't recognise that they have it
  14. Its interesting because I ordered a pack of 100 3cm x 3 cm double sided self adhesive pads for a job. When the order came I got ONE PAD in an envelope. Now is this a genuine mistake? or is it a scam? is it worth £3 odd for me to chase it up? or do I let it go?
  15. Not got any spare room but I am not that far away and I know the area. send me a pm its not what you know its who you know at the end of the day.
  16. Tests on guns going through x ray at airports were very variable, laid flat to give the characteristic profile image they got picked up most times but not all. Stood upright and put mixed in with hair drier and curling tongs in a make up bag, it went down considerably. Humans are fallable and its a tedious repetitive job
  17. My 87 year old mother's Nissan Micra is actually dearer for her to insure than my 5.5 litre V8 Mercedes is for me. And she is down for 3000 miles a year. Mind you, having witnessed her driving first hand I can understand why Age is becoming quite a factor these days, the young and the old get loaded heavily
  18. I agree, its a Catch 22, if you want the job you are "unsuitable" by definition, self cancelling prophesy Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dumb, and Tweedle Dumber.
  19. You are lucky they sought planning permission before the event. People round here increasingly build first and seek permission retrospectively. Councils are only capable of doing so much.

    Retirement

That's true of a lot of places these days, instead of being wise and experience you are just an old duffer. They would rather get rid of you and replace you with an intern

    Retirement

My mate Colin tried volunteering at one of these preserved railway societies when he retired but he didn't last long. He said the politics and the bitchiness was worse than being at work. It took him by surprise because he thought it would be all matey matey. That's the danger with volunteering I am told
  22. It is a source of constant amazement to me that, not only Britain but many other countries, give politicians like this a second thought. These are people aspiring to get the keys of no 10 one day. Yet their CVs are a blank sheet of paper. They are not even inspiring or charismatic. France, Ireland , USA, etc have all given their top jobs to rank outsiders with no previous experience. Why?
