  1. I seem to recall that BP/Pyrodex is loaded by volume and that such propellants work best as a "square" load i.e. if you want to throw a 1oz load you simply cut down a cartridge until it holds 1oz of shot - you can then use this cartridge as a measure for your powder as well?
  2. A lesson for us all here maybe....ALWAYS...pay at least a deposit by credit card.
  3. Simply do not buy the "easier to shoot from a hide tosh" - simply sit 6 inches further back - you don't need to have your face against a net do you?
  4. Polystyrene insulates the inside of the cabinet and prevents any rapid change in temperature which is often the cause of condensation.
  5. Temperature is also a variable to factor in.....cold frosty mornings like the last week or so will see Nutty tucked up keeping his nuts warm. If the day gets warmer then late afternoon (about 3-4 pm at the moment) will find them eager to eat before temps drop again in the evening.
  6. Line it with cheap polystyrene tiles and pop in one of those Napier vp90 sachets - should do the trick. Make sure the guns are dry and room temperature before you put them away.
  7. 7 in the last couple of weeks with the Airgun and one more today with my "new" 130 year old 12g.
  8. That's the same as mine as far as I can tell - although mine is NP with plenty of wall thickness left!! I logged in to the site and found that she went for £900 but then a 16G might well be of more value but that's well over 3 times what I paid for mine. Took the old girl out today with a handful of 21g Lyalvale super lights and the gun really is light but handles superbly - hard to beat the feeling of a gentle stroll with a 130 year old gun glistening in the late afternoon sun - if only she could talk!! An inquisitive squirrel stayed just a little too long in the top of a leafless Hawthorn and cylinder choke at just over 25 yards dropped him like a stone. Only "fault" that I have noticed so far is that the highly polished Damascus barrels reflect the bead so looking down the rib you can see 3 beads with the 2 reflections easy to spot as they appear lower - caught me by surprise a couple of times though
  9. Private seller puts the details of the gun and his cert number onto your certificate - you need to note his full name and address as well as his cert number and issuing force and provide these via recorded delivery within 7 days to your Firearms Dept.
  10. Appreciate the info Gunman - Airgun design and pellet manufacture came around 1900 ish - after my gun was made. I cannot even find any reference as to "Melbourne 1889" award that LJ seems to have won?
  11. My heartfelt thanks to you Andrew for the countless hours of laughs you have blessed us with for many years and, indeed, for many to come. You were a true gentleman who treated those around you with respect and dignity, if only those who should have known better had returned the favour.
  12. Had the action polished by a local metal polishing company...total cost of £10!! cos he did it in his teabreak.
  13. Just bought a Lincoln Jeffries Damascus barrelled Hammer Gun, proof marks indicate that the barrels were made in 1875-87 but they also have " awarded first prize Melbourne 1889" stamped on the top so bit of confusion there. The locks have the name "chas Maschwitz junior" engraved into a banner on both sides but the only history of him I can find is that he patented the first Stamp box in 1850, was it his gun? or did he sell guns bought from LJ? The gun has a feel of quality about it - nice walnut stock, locks feel like a watchmaker built them and even the rib is Damascus - serial number is 24 so early in the run and the words "Lincoln Jeffries The Lightweight 12 Bore" run along the rib. Does anyone out there in PW land have any info whatsoever about LJ shotguns? Searching the interweb turns up very little?
  14. Can anyone explain to me the sudden popularity of the Bullpup design - has anyone ever actually missed a target because their barrel/rifle was too long? Both offerings from AA and Gaystate are the wrong side of £1k and, according to the reviews, could both be improved by fitting a mod? Isn't that another 5+ inches anyway? In close quarter armed combat I can see the advantages but sneaking up on a half witted Collard Dove in the yard? As for aesthetics - alongside the likes of the R10 or S510 US they sure are fugly.
  15. Thanks to this very man my hand speed has improved over the years - every time he appears on TV my hand is but a blur as I reach for the remote.
  16. Gun now free to collector - one firing pin needs attention and she is still not nitro proofed Milton Keynes area.
  17. Somebody's just got lucky - stunning piece for pennies.
  18. Extraenergy, I think, are about the best price at the moment for a fixed price year + deal.
  19. Can you take some more pics but with the American Express card in full view (front and back) just so I can judge the size of the wallet
  20. You need to cut to the chase fortune....is it bad for you?
  21. Those 2 should seriously consider suing their parents.
  22. If you want to pay the extra and spend hours asking Hull Cartridge why your gun is still leaking after they have had it back twice in 4 months then go ahead, buy the HW100, but for less money you can get a gun every bit as good and with more "class", that has an enviable reputation for reliability and wears a tube made by the best in the world. Do the sensible thing and try them all, then, when you have decided which is best, take your pride and joy home with you and don't forget to register the warranty with Air Arms.
  23. Not looked at the Air Arms As suggested look at the superlite S410 or 510 - Ambi stocks made of some weird wood that is superb. There is simply no need to waste your money on any other rifle
