Zeroing a scope help pleaseee !!
bruno22rf replied to The Pest Expert's topic in General Shooting Matters
Check that both mounts are identical by placing on a flat surface and checking they are level-count the elevation clicks on your scope from end to end of its adjustment then work out where the centre is and set it at that point.Place the scope back on the gun and test fire at ,say, 20 metres-use shims to bring the gun onto the target (i used to use cut up 12 gauge cartridge cases ).Your scope is now in perfect alignment with you barrell. The only thing thats springs to mind if the probem turns out to be the mounts is that you,ve got a set designed for a weirauch as these guns have "drooping" barrels and should use special mounts to compensate. On second thoughts-look along the scope rail on your gun and see if its aligned with the barrell-if not you could have a beeg problem. -
Huge response for this-but sorry guys its sold to paraone-thanks for all the interest-wish i had more of them

Seem to remember that the mercury has a plastic piston head and "o" ring washer-if the spring is too pokey the piston could have been hitting the end of the cylinder as the pellet was leaving the barrel way before the piston came to the end of its stoke-the resulting shock could cause all kinds of problems.I seem to remember that you need a specific type of lube for these seals and the incorrect oil could also cause problems. The mercury was a very good gun and somewhar under-rated IMHO-they will be getting rarer with passing of every year so ,if it were mine, i would get it done properly and look after it.

Nail a newspaper to the side of your shed-set both scopes to the same mag then from a distance walk slowly towards the paper with one scope at a time and see which one enables you to read the print from the greatest distance-the one with the clearest optics is most likely the better quality one?

Mungler-r.e. your comments on my post-did,nt write about "it all"-wrote about the girl herself as i would imagine her-writing poetry is a hobby of mine (im getting ready to be laughted at )-totally understand why people dont believe in ghosts but i wish a few of you could have been here whilst it was happening.

Stripped it down and greased the piston/spring with moly grease and soaked the washer overnight in silicone oil.New breach seal and she works a treat-from not puncturing a yoghurt pot to going clean thru both sides of a bean tin.The gun ,a Diana G80,was given to me free by a member of this forum and is now in almost mint condition.

I allways thought that the whole spirit thing was a load of old dung until-7-8 years ago whilst off work and looking for RAF graves at our local graveyard i came accross a grave of a little girl who had died aged 11 in 1820.It made me sad at the time and i recall wondering if she would have died in modern times e.t.c. and eventually i wrote a poem for her.Two years later we began to realise that odd things were occuring around the house and one morning the mrs joked that we had a ghost.Things got steadily worse (my son running downstairs asking us to get the girl off his bed because she had woken him up-books flying accross the room in front of guests as well as us-footsteps at night e.t.c.) Eventually i rather sheepishly made an appointment to see the local vicar and in time met him and explained our prediciment. To my suprise he was not at all shocked and even explained that it was quite common in our village.A few days later he visited our house and after a while he told us that he thought that the spirit of a young girl was in the house (it was,nt until then that i made the connection with the grave) and with my wife and myself he blessed each room in the house and asked the spirit to leave. We have had nothing strange occur since-if we did, he informed us, we could contact the Oxford diocese who had men more qualified in these matters. For all those doubters out there i swear that this is all exactly what happened.

When i was 12 a mate and me managed to buy a double .410 from an elderly lady (£4) by telling her that we would take out the firing pins and hang it on the wall.Within a couple of days we had blagged some empty shells from the local poacher and got our hands on a box of 12,s.Using a pair of pliers and various other impliments from the kitchen we managed to reload the .410 shells using toilet paper as wadding and a blob of sealant in place of the crimp. We shot loads of rabbits this way until the local bobby got wind of what we were up to and eventually caught us red handed-great days, where are you now Eddy?

Thats gotta be one of the best bargains on here so far-hugely under-rated rifle- well done dando44-by the way, your will need a silencer/moderator on it as they crack like a rimfire and you will find that 170 bar is the sweetest spot. -
When i first saw the Hfax ad.i tried to contact them to let them know that it gets on my ****-rather wisely they dont seem to have an email addy for customer services that i could find.ISA ISA my ******

I "discovered" these by accident and i think they are by far the best tasting onions i.ve ever tried. As far as i,m aware you can only get them in Lidl and they are made by "Baresa"-what we have here gents are Borretane onions with caramel in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.Come in a 300g jar marked Cipolle Borrettane with a green and white lid showing a picture of 3 onions-price is £1.19.Do yourselves a favour and try a jar-then try not empty the jar in one go.

Most of the weirauchs i,ve seen have the gold bladed record trigger unit-it must have a model number on it somewhere, usually on the side of the breach - if you are considering buying it then make sure that it has "Hull Cartridge" stamped on the barrell to prove that its an official import.

Accurate kidney function tests are extremely difficult on an unborn child-if they do turn out to be u/s then dialysis is not a huge problem for one so young but can be time consuming and worrying for the parents.Should the kidneys be part functioning then they may serve the child long enough to reach transplant age-you can get by with about 40% of normal function with the downside that the child may not grow as quickly as a "normal" baby. When the time for transplant arrives then the table turns somewhat in the childs favour because young children are very good transplant recipients with a good life span before another transplant is needed-this is because the transplanted organ (unless the child suffers rejection) dies a little at a time and young children can recieve quite a large organ to begin with.Assure your friends that the operation is not painfull and recovery can be as little as 5 days-modern drugs are very good at suppresion without too many side effects and , contrary to popular belief, the child will not spend its life catching colds/bugs and being unwell. They will need a positive attitude to help see them through the times ahead and good friends go a long way to making things more bearable-wish them good luck from me and ,im guessing, everybody else on this forum. p.s. The Churchill hospital in Oxford is an outstanding place to go for all things Renal.

As above-i,ve been given an oldish Airgun that has spent many years out of use and the leather washer is dry and not creating a very good seal-also ,upon firing there is a smell of oil and a puff of smoke so im guessing that the gun was last lubed with mineral oil.Whats the best way to rejuvinate the washer (and breach seal)?-should i try and remove the mineral oil with white spirit first?-any help would be gratefully recieved.p.s. What grease for the spring/piton.?

Thanks for the advice so far-the site manager is looking for written confirmation that foxes carry such diseases and will then forward them to the council and the board of governers.Walked round the back of the school last night and the blighters were yapping to each other constantly-must have been at least 5 out there if not more. Most of the droppings seem to be purple in colour and the sloes that we have tons of seem to be rare on the lower branches-would they eat them? ( i know they are eating the Rose Hips cos you can see them in the droppings)

The G80 was the flagship of the Diana range which was a shame really cos it was a pile of pants-i guess it was made in some cheapo labour country and fogged to the unsuspecting punters as it looks good.I think they sold quite well because you used to be able to buy them in mail order catalogues like Littlewoods e.t.c.-should really have been in the toys section.Sorry m8-just my opinion drawn from experience of the beast.

The councils response to live catching and release is a log the lines of "this practise is now seen as cruel as the territorial nature of the fox leaves the animal confused and unlikly to survive" following advice fron the RSPCA the council will no longer allow such practice on their land.We even had the council send out a pest control firm to initially identify the culprits (has to be done as a matter of course for all vermin related problems) and the operator said that urban foxes seem to have more protection than the royals.

Looking for some sound advice guys-part of my work is site maintainance on a school site about 4-5 acres in total.Over the last couple of months foxes have moved in under some of the temporary buildings and are fouling the grass areas so heavily that they are now unusable-some areas are relativly clean but others are covered with faeces. We have been told that we cannot trap them-poison them-shoot them-block up the access holes-gas them-deliberatly release dogs to catch them. Its amazing that these pests are allowed free passage to prevent a school from using its sports facilities. What can we do (the council suggest flashing L.E.D.,s and a substance called "scoot")? Anybody with any serious suggestions please share them with us (im all for popping them with a .22 sub as we can get within 25 yards of them quite easily but i,ve been told that i would be instantly dissmissecd if caught)

Crossman 1322 has power bang on the limit and after being pumped up can be left safe for hours. On one of the airgun forums there,s a guy who tunes/services them and i would contact him for the best advice. If you do decide to get one make sure that it has the metal breach and not the later plastic version-these came in when production was moved to Mexico where the assembly is so bad as to make these versions total rubbish.
