  1. Seeds with AIDS! Is this a wind up? It is April 1st so perhaps it is.
  2. In a way, nothing to do with the OP but in France drivers are required to carry two breatherlisers in their cars. You can buy them in supermarkets. Their logic appears to be that if you've had a drink then test yourself. If over the top then don't drive. If caught drinking and driving the penalties are twofold. Not only the drink and drive rap but also the not testing yourself when you knew you had been drinking rap. Perhaps we should adopt a similar system here?
  3. Thank you for this. It is a stretching problem. The belt wasn't cheap but that doesn't mean quality!! Thread replacement may be an expensive route as the problem is mainly with the loops at either end of the belt. So I guess I will try the thin thin leather strip solution to the offending loops. Thank you one and all for your contributions.
  4. I suspect answers depend on what you mean by "the basics"? I regard basics as decoys (shells &/or full bodied), a rotary and a couple of floaters or bouncers but not necessarily using the rotary or floaters all of the time depending how pigeons are misbehaving. As to new products and "do they work" or give better results, I suspect answers will be opinion rather than evidence quite simply because even with an identical set-up no two days are necessarily the same. What helps improve one day eg by adding a flapper you never used before, may not work on another day quite simply because pigeons behaviour is not predictable.
  5. The cartridge loops on my leather cartridge belt have become loose through wear. Does anyone have any idea how to rectify the situation please? I recall from the dim and distant past that leather will shrink if soaked in water and allowed to dry. Should I give it a try? What do fellow shooters think? Thanks.
  6. I've recently acquired a bolt action Webley .410 for my grandson. I found a copy of the original Webley advert on www.fourten.org.uk which claims it can pattern 77 pellets in a 30 inch circle at 40 yds using No 6 shot. I need to find time to pin wallpaper to a hedge and see what mine does.
  7. I recently visited a vineyard SW of Bristol which has placed long / high floater poles (possibly about 10 ft) around the vineyard. On the end of each was a black winged silhouette plastic bird. I didn't look too closely to see whether it was a crow or bird of prey. But they were quite an amazing sight swaying in the wind and, I was told, very effective.
  8. Many thanks for taking th effort. Much appreciated. Bob
  9. I am aware of the live recording law but unsighted on the iirc flashing mirror devices. What are these and Where would I find chapter and verse to read up on? I ask because there was a PW post long time back on using suspended ballroom mini mirror balls and I was thinking of giving it a go. Nobody then offered on any comments on the legality so genuinely interested. Many thanks. Bob.
  10. Normally I would agree. However, given the current state of affairs in the North of Bristol area this is a large group!! Went out for a look on one of my permissions Saturday, fields of rape, just one or two pigeons flying high otherwise "empty skies". Anyone in the SW doing any good?
  11. As I raised the Question at post #15 I wonder if this is aimed at me? I am neither. I was (and still am) genuinely interested in what evidence existed which supported a sweeping and generalised criticism of the police mis-interpreting the law to suite their own ends. Implying that the problem was endemic. An answer was given to which I responded by saying I could see where the respondent was coming from. I could. It was indeed sweeping generalisations and heresay. And when challenged by others the author went to ground, which speaks volumes.
  12. Many thanks for this. I can now see where you were coming from. Regards. Bob
  13. I'm intrigued. Perhaps you could kindly provide PW members with your supporting evidence ( yes please, evidence and not heresay generalisations) of just how you know that the police interpret firearms law to suite their own particular needs. Thank you.

    power test

If you want to service / tune / adjust etc yourself then I've some instructions for S400 / S410 from about 2006 (when I bought mine) if you want them. They're word docs with photo's. PM me you email address. May take a day or two as I'm of to Cologne until next Thursday. But do take heed of previous advice about Chrono's and power testing as it's an offence to have an air rifle over 12 ft lbs without an FAC. Bob
  15. +1 (for example both my gunstocks have been adjusted by Nigel Teague)Also, it does pay to shop around. UK Guntrader currently has about 30 Miroku Mk 38 grade 1's secondhand with prices ranging from £750 - £1250
  16. I've had mine over 5 years problem free. Fitted with a MAP sight it is extremely accurate. I don't have a power problem probably because I had a Ben Taylor reg fitted post purchase. Drops rabbits at good distances. Wouldn't part with it.
  17. Funny though this was there is of course the more serious side of "walkers". For example is there a right of way / footpath where they were? I am fortunate to be able to shoot at a number of farms - all arable farms. One has no public rights of way yet people climb locked gates to ramble or walk their dogs, generally off lead. On another there are footpaths but walkers feel they have a right to walk where there are no footpaths or rights of way but in an attempt to link one or more footpaths to form circular walks. On another there is a toll ride where horse riders pay for a licence to ride. It is not a bridal path nor is it a footpath and a sign says private land, yet City folk walk there as if it were a public park, ramblers walk in groups of twelve (despite having maps which show no footpaths) and at night mountain bikers career through the farm with lights blazing. In other word they are all trespassers. Yet if I or the farmer approach them with care to point out the error of their ways we are subjected to quite strong abuse and excuses such as " we always walk here, it's tradition" "we're doing no harm or damage so what's the problem?" "Tony Blair gave us the right to roam" . I once tried a notice saying shooting in progress. It was removed. The landowner of an adjacent woodland put a chain on a gate between it and the farm: someone cut the locks off and the bar wire wrapped around the posts was removed. I once challenged someone walking with dogs on early winter wheat, he said he thought it was grass field! And you have to be careful when carrying a shotgun, even broken and empty, because spiteful **** could call the police and then the shooter has an uphill struggle! It's an intermittent but continuing problem which is worrying if we, as shooters, have to look through hedges before we pull the trigger just to ensure there are no trespassers. Get it wrong and despite the fact they are trespassing and in the wrong it will not prevent the full weight of the law attempting to fall on us under dubious headings of " duty of care " or whatever PC **** the anti's can come up with. Thank goodness for BASC insurance and legal cover from March!
  18. Isn't there a criminal offence known as "obtaining goods by false pretences"? If this applies in your case (citizens advice lawyer may help on the detail of the law) and the local police refuse to help then a letter for the "personal attention of the Chief Constable" (get his/her name to make sure they get it in person) with a complaint that PC 123 has refused to investigate this possible criminal offence and could the Chief Constable give a reason as to Why? (You could also copy your letter to the Commissioner of Police if there is one in your area, and also your MP) This may sound a bit extreme but Chief Constables hate their force being scrutinised by external authorities and you will at least get a definitive response. On a different subject / matter I had need to adopt this tactic and it worked.
  19. Fascinating subject. A question from a lack of knowledge please. My shotguns use cartridges so, if I have a blank day, I eject the cartridges and the gun is empty. If you have a blank day with a punt gun how do you clear a muzzle loader? Thank you.
  20. Yes I have, and other work over the years. Nigel is a great guy who does great work. Bear in mind that the most expensive element of the price is having to send the gun off to be re-proofed.Easy for me to visit his workshop from Bristol. Manchester is a bit of a drive but worth it if you require other work e.g. Gun fit or stock adjustment.
  21. I know nothing about the S200 conversion kit but my comment is based on owning an AA s410 which has had an indexing problem from time to time. On the 410 the indexing is by a little copper strip which rises as you pull back the bolt. As it rises it locks into one of the notches in the side of the rotary magazine and rotates it one position. To work effectively the strip must be at right angles to the movement. Sometimes through use the strip points slightly downwards and doesn't index sufficiently. All I do is with a narrow long nosed pair of pliers I gently bend the strip back to a right angle. If the S200 conversion works in a similar fashion then you could try tweaking the indexing strip. Good luck.
  22. This may sound weird but give it a try. It was recommended to me by a very well known gunsmith. When you grip your fore grip, instead of having your thumb just running along the side of of the fore grip raise it slightly so it's running along the top of the fore grip and parrallel to and abutting the barrel but without obstructing you view. Good luck.

    air bottle

Hi Robbiep points well made and taken. What is worrying for divers is the the TEH experience of fills on the south coast. post #17. My dive club in Bristol has 2 compressors and Nitrox and trimix facilities and it's working practices set out to ensure no problems of the type we have discussed. Good diving to you and your wife. Me, I'm retiring. Having reached 70 yrs and 20+ years experience, my core strength is reducing (age is a ******) and my own risk assessment suggests it's time to hang up my fins. Still the bright side is more days for shooting. Regards. Bob.

Agree point 1. Agree point 2 re IDEST. As to dive centres filling out of test cylinders I know it has been done but in the overwhelming majority of cases the IDEST in test sticker is examined or the stamps in the cylinder following the previous test. As to your point on decanting I have to disagree. Where does this moisture come from? Certainly not from the 12 litre cylinder which would have been filled from a compressor with at least two filter stacks. And the decanting whip would seal both cylinders before decanting took place. So it would not have been introduced from external sources. I have decanted from 300 bar 7's to 3 litre ponies for years without problems. However, I certainly support your general observation on the need for care in handling cylinders and their overall care. Incidentally, you may wonder my background which allows me to say what I say. It's as a BSAC Advanced Diver and Instructor and I suspect your well intended comments are from a similar background. Our difference is a matter of degree. Regards
