  1. After the Second World War the majority of the population had little or nothing financially my parents included. They did however do whatever work they could to earn a living, my father as a bricklayer and my mother as a shop assistant. Over the years and living a fairly frugal life style, e.g. any holidays they had were in this country never travelling abroad, they were able to buy their own home. Now my father has passed away and my mother is in a care home why should she have to use money from the value of the house to pay for her care home fees when contemporaries who chose to rent a home and spend their income do not have to pay?
  2. Depends on the depth you are fishing over, have used this method very successfully at Farmoor 2 in Oxfordshire and other waters. If starts to snag the bottom increase rate of retrieve or go back to floater and weighted point fly.
  3. I have done this and use an intermediate line fishing very slowly figure of eight retrieve, watching the end of the line coming out of the end of the rod for takes, like a "swing tip".
  4. Was talking to a guy who shoots for England who shot it and he thought it was a very good shoot. I was amazed at his enthusiasm having driven 200 odd miles each way to shoot it.
  5. Had a Freelander 2 for about six years. For me has been a brilliant vehicle being very versatile, good off road and towing etc but will clean up to be a very presentable motor. Comfortable ride and about 36 mpg Not had any problems, only services and routine maintenance. Boot could do with being a bit bigger but plenty of room with the rear seats down. I would not know what to replace it with at the moment!
  6. Sounds like Ted was the guy I saw there years ago with a bloody V on his forehead!,,, The skeet trap had been playing up - he went to fiddle with it and it smacked him one as described above. Not to be deterred he carried on as if nothing had happened. Them old Fen boys are pretty tough!
  7. Benelli comb raiser for sale to fit comfortech synthetic type stocks on M2s and Supersport etc. This is the highest setting one and would raise the comb about 1/2" at the face. Excellent condition - hardly used. £25 plus postage. Tried to attach picture but file too big but could send via email if of interest.
  8. For sale two Briley Spectrum chokes to fit a Krieghoff K80, excellent condition as hardly used. LM or 3/8 £50 the two plus postage. Tried to take a picture but file too big, if interested can send via email.
  9. Great to see the ground have a new lease of life. Ten sporting stands at the moment but they have plans to increase this number. The targets are imo pitched at the right level for most shooters.. They also have a driven flush area and skeet and dtl. Most importantly the food is good too and the staff friendly and helpful. I see on Facebook they are clearing ground to increase the shooting area and also have a sporting competition coming up in May. All in all good news to have another local ground to go to.
  10. I used to shoot a Gold E, they are excellent guns and my preference was for the 32" because they are inherently a fast gun to shoot and the extra weight and length of the 32" barrels steadied it up a bit.
  11. Tried them in the past, stick on fairly well and also come off without taking the finish with it. However as they are an even thickness where they fold over the side of the stock it will affect the cast.
  12. Looking for a montecarlo stock for my MK 38, ideally grade 5 or grade 3.
  13. I've used them in the past and found them to be good shells, not too thumpy and kill well enough if the gun is in the right place.
  14. Years ago got fed up with rattling the wings of pigeons with 1/4 choke only for them to fly on. Switched to an old Browning Auto 5 full choke and 32 gm 6s, never looked back, shot thousands of pigeons with that combination.
  15. Sometimes wonder how thorough the washing up is at some of the clay shoots I go to, sure this is a good source of cold germs. Always drink left handed even though right handed as there are far fewer left handed people and cuts the percentage risk down!
  16. Thanks for that but sounds a little steep at £695. Think you could buy a gun for that!
  17. I've found Liverpool Victoria to be very good on price and service. My disco insurance and more recently a freelander has been about £260 fully comp. Also if you have a claim they handle the whole thing rather than sub contract out to half a dozen other companies which you finish up having to coordinate.
  18. A friend of mine is looking for another set of 32" barrels for his MK38 trap gun. He intends to have them bored out to 1/4, 1/4 for skeet. Anyone have a set or know the whereabouts of any please send me a pm.
  19. Thanks for the offer Deerhunter but going with the old fogeys to Kibworth.
  20. It's a bit more complex than I let on.It all started when I had the gun fitted by a competent gunsmith with an excellent reputation. He's made some alterations to the stock but unfortunately before I could try it I lost quite a bit of weight through illness. Now I'm shooting again my scores dropped dramatically and especially as mentioned on closer targets like loopers and going away birds. So I have shot it , probably about 400 shells. I had a dilemma, was my the loss of weight throwing out the gunfit or was the gunfit inherently wrong? Before going back to the gunsmith I thought I would pattern it and to me it seems to be shooting high for a sporter. I have another gun which I know shoots flatter so I will try that on Wednesday and will see what happens with that.
  21. Basically I was blotting the target out with the bead, but like you Rewulf when actually shooting I like to see the clay above the barrels. Yes also I will also do the obvious and actually pattern it at 30 yards.
  22. Just done an interesting experiment as there seemed to be something wrong with the fit of my shotgun. Whilst clay shooting I have been consistently missing fairly close loopers and simple going away birds, especially if dropping. I set up a paper pattern plate at 10 yards away shooting at small drawn in targets about the size of a two p coin. Shooting from about 5 ft high at the target 5 ft high. I was using tight chokes, 3/4 and full making a small round hole 2" high of the target. I am no mathematician but I calculated that at 30 yards I would be 18" above the target. I know most of you will have fallen asleep by now but there must be some mathematical geeks out there who can tell me if I am right or wrong!
  23. I have a Woodcock jacket which I bought 2 years ago. I'm very happy with it. Have been out in torrential rain several times and has never let a drop through. The fit for me is good too, to the point that I often clay shoot in it in the winter. The only slight problem I have with it is the zip is sometimes a bit tricky to start off.
