    Dead Bats

Do you live anywhere near a wind farm ? I have heard that the change in air pressure around the turbines kills bats.
  2. They are great for getting rid of incontinence pads?
  3. Definitely go for a second hand Beretta 686, Miroku MK 38, MK70 or MK60 or Browning 325, 425. Would suggest a 30” barrel length for starting clays and all round gun and choked 1/4 and 1/2 or multichoke. As has been stated they will hold their money well if you want to sell and unless you are very unlucky should be reliable. Always worth giving Bill Elderkin of Spalding a ring as well as the others. Difficult when you have just started but gun fit is very important if you want to shoot well, try to get someone to help you with that. Some of the lesser known brands look appealing as the new price is comparatively low but you would not do so well if you want to sell it. There is also the question of reliability with some of them!
  4. Damp cloth over ding and then hot iron on damp cloth. Keep checking progress.
  5. Saw first swallow in S.Lincs 16th April.
  6. Had one for eight years and it has been a really good all round vehicle. Not much expense outside of regular servicing. Get about 36 mpg in the winter and up to 40 mpg in the summer, don’t drive it hard though. Tows well, good off road and a quiet comfortable cruiser on the motorway. Would not know what to replace it with at the moment.
  7. Didn’t quite manage the “all gun dogs should be kept outside in a run” thing?
  8. Shot 3/4 and full for sporting and fitasc over several years with good results. On the one hand the “dusting” kills give confidence but close targets can be a problem psychologically and every so often a unaccountable miss would occur on longer ones, presumably not helped by the tight patterns. Had the gun taken out to 5/8 in both barrels and never looked back. Do however use a combination of different shells to help open and tighten the pattern.
  9. If you have too many rats in a cage they start eating each other!
  10. Know how you feel, went through a similar thing a few years ago. What I used to spend on on two syndicates now spend on clay shooting - at least the clays are pretty well guaranteed to turn up. Still go beating and enjoy a couple of beater’s day at the end of the season. Guess it’s an age thing?
  11. It sounds as though it is almost certainly the carrier. I've had the same problem along with some of my friends. The solution for us was to twist the carrier, Vic who is on here has a link which shows how to do it, I'll try to contact him for you.
  12. I was comparing the Browning chokes to a 1/4 Beretta optima choke, the Browning DS 1/4 and 1/2 chokes were more open when compared to it. The 3/4 Browning choke was about the same as the 1/4 Beretta choke.Having said that the Browning 1/2 (modified) threw a good even pattern albeit as stated more open than the 1/4 Beretta. As we know patterning only tells you so much and of course spread can depend a lot on what cartridge you use. For my experiment I used Fiocchi Official Sporting 8.5 (English 8s)s
  13. Yes I know Josh Bridges uses them to very good effect. What constriction do you recommend in Kicks?
  14. Yes had really good results with the 1/4 optima chokes over the years. Have already done precisely what you recommended i.e. 3/4 and 7/8 but if anything was overkill. However also tried the 1/2 but that seems a little too open - pity they don't do a 5/8. That's why I was wondering what others experience was, but not worried I'll get on and shoot with what I have. Just interested technically.
  15. Recently acquired a 725 prosport and reading on the internet the general consensus is that the DS chokes shoot more open than other guns. So I did my own tests in a basic way at 30 yards. It seemed to be true, I had to go to Imp mod to equate to the 1/4 on my optima choked Beretta. Has anyone else experienced this? What DS chokes do you normally use for sporting. I would have put some pictures of the patterns on but the files are too big.
  16. With all the adverse comments it's only fair to relate my own experience. I shot the blue course on the Thursday and the red on the Friday. I thoroughly enjoyed it, found it to be a tough shoot on the whole. Would have liked a few more stands rather than the 12 on each course. We had a great squad of friendly people and had no breakdowns or hold ups. Yes it was expensive! Didn't find it being spread out as an issue as drove everywhere. As for the catering again it was OK for me and although you had to make your own the tea and coffee it was only a £1 and they did have decaff coffee. Regarding the name check on entry which took about 2 minutes, I think that was a good idea in the times we live in. I'm A class and finished on 150.
  17. Those who shot well thought it was marvellous, those who shot badly thought it was ****!
  18. Got an imp cyl pure gold extended and ported. Also two light mod if of interest.
  19. I met him at the European FITASC Champs at Lulworth recently and he is fine young ambassador for Browning and clay shooting generally.
  20. Front page Daily Mail "Volvo Death Knell For Petrol Cars" More like death knell for Volvo!
  21. Some friends of ours sons, 16 and 18 years old were using an air rifle in their good sized garden when their parents were away, next thing the armed response unit is round there and taking them into custody with the 18 year old questioned and kept over night! This was the reponse when the neighbours at the back complained that pellets had stayed into their garden! The whole saga went on for weeks! I would have thought it would have been better for the neighbours to have had a word with the lads rather than going straight to the police. The same with this case - better to talk first!
  22. Have a look on some of the shooting Internet forums, individual chokes and sets come up all the time at £25/£30 a choke.
  23. I've got a 10 plate Freelander and the stop start has not worked for a couple of years or so. Had it checked out by my local garage when it first stopped working. The garage owner whose expertise I respect thoroughly said it was tricky to sort out and not really worth worrying about. I followed his advise and have not noticed any drop off in the mpg. However I would like you take it back from where you bought it for them to sort.
  24. OK if and when I get it I'll **** it away against a wall so that the State will pay for me in my old age!
