3rd time of reading and eventually got it, you must be tired. Well done you will appreciate it more when you've dug ig all out, thats assuming the building inspections don't insist you go down another metre lol

Here's a couple of Dog Fox's from last night. Both were going into a new caller i bought from weston, i decided to bite the dust and thought long and hard about the advantages with the remote controlled callers against my Ipod station, which i cannot complain about its ability its called in quite a few since i started with it and maybe i may take it out now and again to compare the 2. I spent some dosh on a ICOtech call from bestfoxcall it said to have a 300mtr range using the remote, i only put the call out to around 150yds or so. It was the volume control i was after, something i had no control over with the Ipod. Anyway the caller was place into the centre (ish) of the stubble field i parked the pickup in a corner infront of a hedge and this time down wind(i had a blond moment the other night, watched a fox come in to my Ipod only to give it a good waft of my "Brut" after shave. the wind was blowing a good un from behind it didnt hang about) After around 20 minutes i had a quick look round with the Archer off the rifle, bloomin eck that didnt take long there was one coming in from behind and to the left of me 150 yards and closing pretty fast, i mounted the archer to the scope grabbed my bit of carpet (it makes moving the rifle on the roof very quiet) together with the rifle carpet down on the tailgate a little muffled cough the Fox stopped and off went a 53grn Vmax,It was a big dark Dog Fox one of the biggest ive seen on this permision i didnt hear the impact as it was so close. No exit wound but the Fox was history, the sound as i picked it up was like a sports bag full of wet sponge's. I cracked open a can and sat on the back of the pickup and had a play with the caller, changing the calls and the volume. There was nothing for quite some time that was until i changed to a rodent squeak type call and soon had another Fox going into the caller, this was from front right from 300yds plus, coming from just over a brow of a small hill It kept stopping for just seconds not long enough for a shot but all the time it was closing the gap then it sat down this was the oppertunity for the shot, its hard to judge distance using night vision but my guess was around the 170yrd mark so side on chest shot bang another 53grn Vmax on the way, this time i hear the strike, the Fox turned full circle its head raised its back end down, then all had sunk under the hight of the stubble within a couple of seconds, another one in the bag. All in all a good night i was pleased with my new purchase. A well deserved pint was soon to follow, a text to the farmer and all done for the night

Just a thought, a bit of a tangent for you. Most of the beef cattle are cross breeds, so are pig's, sheep and not too sure about chickens. All cross bred to gain some benefits, cross breeding for those types of benefits I can understand but not gor aesthetic purposes.

Damaged goods... I would send it back asap pictures of the damage. Email to them telling them you require a full refund or more of a discount.

have you tried sausagemaking.org

I would have thought one of the 6.5 cals would be more suited. The 06 cals are big cases and need some filling for the simalar velocities of the smaller 6.5x55 cases and the like, i'm looking at another long range cal myself, if that is i get round to shooting out my Sako. I have been looking at the 6.5x55 6.5x47 and 260's If i were to choose a smith to do the rebarrel or custom build i would go Steve out of the 2 you mention

Good on you for getting some. If brock and bs were the only one's to stock them I would rather change cal. Lol. I just need a little Varget now ;-)
-
They may have been following me home but they dropped off miles before my permissions, i tried it out last night but no sign,(a little practise at home before, the Mrs was well impressed ) but my other new gadget worked but the Bloomin Fox winded me as soon as i went for the rifle all i could see was its little bottom flying down the field. My own fault i had a blond moment.
-
Pinky I didn't see many really if any at all. But maybe I missed them, I wasn't feeling to well, man flu I think;-(
-
I was surprised I could get any at all let alone 300. I ordered some Varget off another stand after quite some time groveling :-) but it will hopefully be worth it. I just couldn't get the same result with 140. I suppose more time I could have but I only had 15 53grn left at the time.

Did this to my little castle, everything was artexed ceiling wall's the lot. All the aalls were taken back to brick dobbed boarded and skimmed ceilings as abovementioned.

Saved a blank night out. I fully intended going out to try the call out I got on Saturday, but felt like poo. If the wind drops I give it a try tonight.
-
Norman Clarke for the vmax, the varget I am waiting for a delivery to come from a chap I know, I bumped into. ;-)
-
Must see is the mole chap by the hall, very very good presentation 1st time I have seen him there, and well worth watching for 20 mins.

Managed to get hold of some 53grn vmax so stocked up to max on those and sorted out 3lb of Varget, so a good day. Got a free tenterfield fox call too,,, and managed to get a noise out of it. Probably looked a bit weird driving home with this thing in my mouth and rosy cheeks. Some strange looking sights there too.

As for the reason for the change, not really for the mpg more the noise. As for running costs, I really don't give a monkey's. If I still had my punto it would greatly restrict my shooting

23.30 !!! You were shooting in the afternoon, and they didnt respond to the call from a worried member of the public until then, I'de have told them to come back at a more convienient time. Mind you i would of had my jim-jams on at 22.30 Cup of tea they would of had been offered a cup of Horlicks IF they were lucky

ppu 22 250 ammo hard to chamber
Dougy replied to redhob's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
Do they extract ok before and after being shot Are there any commpresion marks around the case or on the base near the primer Have you cleaned it recently and left some fluff off a patch in the chamber, just a small piece of thread will cause that. -
Changed mine a couple of weeks ago from MT Hankook to General Grabber road tyres and mpg has increased by about 5mpg. The MTs will go on steel rims from about December time or when the weather gets too bad. I will get my money back in around 12 months for the rims.

2,nd dibs on seat can pick up anytime if above falls through.

Don't know about you lot but when I started shooting I did a little research before jumping in. The main reason was so I didn't look half the fool. My first public appearance was a air rifle compo shoot at Packington that's 30 years ago+. I asked allot of questions before I went.

What are you shooting with them ? I just remember some cowboy used some barnes bullets on Boar, he reckons he hit the Boar but it ran on. Not found he wasn't too happy, but thdn he wasn't a happy bunny at the best of times, lol..
