  1. I think it depends on what sort of customer base shops have. If most of them are pigeon shooters and roughshooters then the likelihood of shifting significant numbers of Longthornes are fairly low. From my limited experience with Longthornes, the engineering side of the business is very well organised. They badly need a marketing policy that works much better than their current efforts.
  2. I had the same diagnosis 2 years ago so I changed my diet to all the healthy things we know we should eat. No biscuits, cakes, chocolate and no sugar in drinks. Exercised more. I've come down from 18 1/2 to 14 1/12 stone and I no longer have an issue with diabetes. Life is a bit miserable but the occasional treat is really enjoyed. I have a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit me but apart from that there are no problems.
  3. I think people are being carried away with the ‘game day’ part of the experience. No one has worked hard to rear birds or to make sure they are presented in a satisfactory way to ensure the guns have a good day. Simulated game days are are a lucrative business and throwing clays is hardly a difficult job with modern traps. It’s glorified clay shooting with food and drinks. Don’t confuse it with the real thing.
  4. Would a 30 ins o/u fit in the case?
  5. Dennis Stepney was buried today in a quiet service, as he requested. He had been ill for some time and will be missed by a lot of people in the shooting world. A sad day.
  6. Remember happy days using Viri 32gms Supersports through a 390 auto. Rhino 3/8 choke. Fantastic combination. They were a true 7 shot so there was nothing you couldn’t break no matter how far away it was.
  7. Tread very lightly. Be agreeable to (almost) anything. Buy flowers on a regular basis. Good luck!
  8. I wouldn't hesitate. The 425 is a perfectly good gun, tried and tested design, 100% reliable. Loads on the market so be selective and buy the best one you can find.
  9. If you’ve had a good time then a handshake and a thank you will be sufficient. It’s only clay shooting after all.
  10. I always struggle to spot small dents in a barrel. The secret is to have a gunsmith you trust 100% and let him put you right, and the gun too come to that.
  11. Both Barbury and Purbeck are a step up from where you have been shooting. Both are full time grounds with a vast range of targets to entertain you and you should have a great time.
  12. If you're just going for a play then Purbeck or Barbury are a good choice. If you want a competition then Gunsite Clays near Avebury would be good. You don't have to be a CPSA member to shoot either.
  13. I think my figures are fairly accurate Gordon. Margins on new guns are notoriously small - apart from Ceasar Guerini and Krieghoff that is.
  14. Hello Gordon. How lovely to hear from you. I expect the gun cost £1300 from the importer, plus VAT plus margin gets you to the £1800 retail price. 80-90% profit margins are unheard of on new guns.
  15. What colour is the sky in your world? Those numbers are so far wide of the mark they are laughable
  16. Scully is right. They are excellent guns but they have been marketed poorly. The build quality is as good if not better than all of the mainstream guns so maybe your gun is a 'keeper' as the trade are not going to give anything near what it is worth.
  17. 28p to shoot the same targets for two years? You're having a laugh.
  18. I’m not sure that you have found the root of the problem. Not that I can speak with any authority as I don’t go there, but a lot of people are happy to travel up to two hours to shoots if what is on offer is what they want......
  19. Has the A303 been diverted? Not far from Amesbury is it?
  20. The key word is ‘volunteer’. No one is trying to make a living out of it
  21. Look at the prices on Guntrader and see what the bottom and top prices are. From a dealer it must be immaculate and original to command the top price. The lower prices are likely to be private sales so you must be cautious if you go down that route. From that point you must buy on condition alone. I would imagine you could buy one for £2.5k from a dealer but you might have to work hard. I repeat that it must be the original spec and not messed about with.
  22. Avon and Somerset deserve a mention here. Their service on renewals and initial applications is very good.
  23. Thanks for doing that. Haven’t a clue really
