  1. Shoot pigeons with clay shells, in my case favourite is Gamebore White Gold Fibre 7.5it 28g (which are actually 6.5 English), so good for pigeons and use these or there 8it which is a English 7 1/4 for clays. Any of the euro clay cartridges would probably be the same Fiocchi, Rio, RC etc. as they are all continental sizes. Similar to above you can also get clay cartridges in 7 but not many in fibre as all tend to be plaswad for trap.
  2. May i suggest that unless you are constantly getting flighting 45 yard plus high pigeon or getting 45 yard plus driven pheasants over you you look towards something like 1/4 and 1/2. 1/2 choke and 32g of 6 or 6.5 will stop respectively pheasant or pigeon up to 45 yards if placed on target. If the gun is second hand and reasonable price, get it and pattern it and see what it actually is choked as most sbs can always be opened slightly in choke if required by local gun smith for about £80 last time i had it done. If you can pick up a multichoke sbs you can put in what you want, however as above 3/4 and full whilst maximizing range, sacrifices the shot pattern diameter and you have to be very accurate but sub 25 yard shots would not be recommended.
  3. Have a look at Khan manual for venator. Seems to be fine. But only up to half choke.
  4. Why not half was that you want and half that she wants?
  5. The pup won't know the difference........ my dads two best gundogs were from show stock (golden retriever and springer spaniel), both showed up most working dog stock, as it all comes down to the training.
  6. I like the Fenix brand and have several of their torches and headlamps...... this is one of their brightest at the moment http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fenix-Ultimate-Lumen-Model-Headlamp/dp/B00SAD8I9Y/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1442351700&sr=8-2&keywords=hp15+fenix I have a 225 lumen earlier model that also runs on 4AA and can't fault it.
  7. No one will work for them and they have to raise wages to attract new workers.....?
  8. I had similar with my old motor, out kayaking for mackeral and key lost in 60ft of water about a mile off shore. Had to get RAC to recover to home as had dad go round and couldn't find spare key. Ever since I have always had a non-ignition spare key for my car that I carry with me which operates the door lock and leave the ignition key locked in the car safe. If worst happens, just need to get in by door.
  9. Wheat is actually better in my experience but as I am dumping it in on a weekly basis, whole barley tends to last a bit longer. Best I ever used was cracked maize but expensive up here.... As mainly a teal pond with visiting mallard, I try and keep it shallow, also means I can see how much is left sitting on the bottom.
  10. Standard 18650 li cell, can get replacements from several sources, is it tabbed for soldering, flat top, or buttoned on top? http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/big_f_d_d?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 is a good source but avoid the cheap .....fire batteries on ebay or elsewhere.
  11. I use seafishing lumibeads and fluro beads on my lanyards for whistle, calls, nv vision, binos etc and put a blob of uv or fluro paint on things like mags, makes them so much easier to find in dark with uv torch. Also have tritium markers on car keys.
  12. Struggle to pattern at 40 yards on anything less than 3/4 or full choke, Hulls attempt at a 40 yard max pigeon cartridge and no more to try to keep cost down. They could drop down to a 6 1/2 and have better patterns out to 40 yards with half choke and still have plenty of energy in pellet. Would also be less likely to interfere with their premium game market in 6 and 5.
  13. Striking should only be permitted for health and safety reasons, not for pay or benefits. If you feel you aren't being paid enough you are free to leave and earn money elsewhere.
  14. Have a look on Youtube and pick your method, I use several from simple pull through carbide sharpener (for the Mrs's kitchen knifes as simple and she can use it with out risk), throught to multistone dedicated diamond and ceramic sets for my knives and outdoor knives. For cheap kitchen knives (i.e. not victorinox, sabatier, global etc) a pull through is fine.
  15. Will come to realise decoy is just that after a few minutes and be made wary and scared off, better to leave some feed (get 25kg of whole barley for £3 to £5 depending on source) and when you are up there put it out in 2 to 4 inches depth of water and monitor how long it takes to disappear. I just dropped 5kg into pond at shoot and a week later walked off (without shooting) a dozen teal with maybe 1kg still there, put same in again and hoping to shoot next weekend, once they have attracted some more. Wouldn't shoot more than once a fortnight.
  16. As above, dog needs to be excited and focused on another activity rather than by gunshot/loud bangs, which it can learn to accept. Some times beating at a formal largish shoot where the dogs are at a distance from the gun line is possible as the dog is hunting pheasants or grouse (lots and therefore completely distracted) whilst shots are in back ground. As he gets better, can work closer to gunshot and eventually with gun alongside. It might take a season to sort but worth trying.
  17. It is basically impossible to over oil an auto, what ever anyone else says........ any excess simply drips or gets thrown off moving parts Mine likes ballistol with a little WS2 mixed into it.
  18. Most semis prefer hulls within a quarter an inch of their chambering. Problem is most semis come with 3 inch chamber as manufacturers try to cover all bases. When most try to use inexpensive lightish clay and pigeon loads through them. (67mm} they tend not to like it. My franchi will cycle light loads down to 21g in 70mm but sometimes does't like light and short loads. I.e. Will cycle eley amber but not first select lites
  19. I have emtecs (filtered. custom, expensive. Comfortable, filters keep falling out), surefire ep4 (filtered or solid, comfortable, reasonable but can fall out if caught on hat), sonic 2 (filtered. Semi comfortable, reasonable. Not highest snr) You can get silicone 2 part solid blue moldable earplugs (5 min to make) for less than 10pounds usually sold for motorbikes on evilbay. Currently using homemade emtecs replicas with sonic 2 (use motorbikes mouldable to make pattern, cast into plaster of Paris and then use 2 part skin safe silicone, sonic valves and some wire to make channels) - not quite as neat as emtecs but seem to work fine
  20. I was shooting over muck courtesy of friend the other week, did ok. Slurry though is a different matter.....
  21. What are you intending to use it for? Flexothane (light, non-insulated, cheap waterproof non-breathable, green), goretex army issue (cheap, light, camo, can get insulated under jacket to go with), good wax proof (double waxed, heavy, insulated), etc I on Ridgeline gear, Pintail smock (2 years old atm) and torrent jacket (4 years old atm) and no complaints but both this side of £100 and should last years more.
  22. Not really, as would need major work, only loader that I am aware that fits bill at a reasonable cost is MEC Steelmaster....... at about £270ish Might be work asking anyone if they have one locally that you could borrow or buy secondhand.
  23. If you can't find any locally, try online... Just Cartridges for one example. There is a delivery charge to overcome but if ordering a slab of clay cartridges or pigeon cartridges and a box or two of bismuth, it is bearable.
  24. Split the difference silenced 410.........
