  1. Know a fella that done something similar to a cat that kept emptying its bowels into his flower beds, he got hold of it and give it the back of a spoon dipped in command mustard across the ringpiece. Said it took off like a missile after application.
  2. Sounds like a fantastic day...even better now you don't need to get the waders on and get in the water with the dog! I've been hampered by a terrible shift pattern so my own dog...just turned 1 year old is only starting to hear launcher blanks fired from my rifle (no blank pistol unfortunately). I'm hoping next year she may be ready for some pigeons but really trying not to rush as she still seems a little immature. Can't wait to see more from your dog, its a beauty
  3. My comment was about how an awful accident will likely be spun into something like " them damn toffs were hunting with dogs and forced them to cross a railway line getting them killed...those horrible wildlife killing toffs" and all the usual tripe 'they' spew. Of course it was bloody awful for the dogs and witnesses, I don't see how you take that as my "reaction". It was a statement that gave nothing about my initialreaction and gave my thoughts on how it is likely to be spun by those that look for ANY opportunities to take a dig at fieldsports. Just because I didn't chime in with some version of the old "thoughts and prayers" does not mean I didn't think it was an awful incident. Jesus wept... maybe we do need some form of thought police to ensure I feel suitably aggrieved so people don't think in totally heartless.
  4. I reckon the antis and packham-ites will seize on it for a free for all misinformation campaign.
  5. A birching a day keeps the idiots at bay

I had it in my head that the maine drinks were a northern ireland thing. Used to look forward to the "maine man" driving round on Thursdays for our 6 bottles of fizzy when I was young. Cola, brown and white lemonade, apple, pineapple and cream soda was our usual. Never tried the football special though
  7. How many is "a few" malted milk biscuits? If i have a cuppa and open a packet of them I can find myself going through them like a packet of crisps!
  8. Thats a great outcome considering you were probably convinced you were going to get a verbal bum kicking! I've seen an allegedly well trained dog run in so far down the beat it ended up in the gun line so there's always one worse than what you think yours is! Best of luck 👍
  9. Possibly a practice manager scared of ending up in the court or social media for "refusing to help Ukrainian refugees"
  10. I didn't say anything about the merits of it. The post asks the question so people can give their opinion. My opinion is that perhaps someone could be made an example of. Is it medieval and backwards to flog someone? Absolutely. But how modern and forward thinking is it to throw excrement about the place? Thats the behaviour of the animals we were supposed to have evolved from and become more intelligent than
  11. I just hope a prosecution comes out of this, I mean you get a clip from the law for peeing in the street never mind a bucket of pee and excrement. Its like she wants to be unemployable
  12. So while scrolling aimlessly through face-ache this morning I come across this little article about some idiot medical drop out who is protesting about private jets. Some how she thinks that videoing herself dumping urine and excrement over a memorial to covid fundraiser Captain Tom was a great idea and sure to raise awareness. Personally I think she should be birched.
  13. I don't think there will be much update until DNA results come through. These murders happened long before I was born but I've always thought it such a shame that this boy was never found. Kind of drew parallels to "the disappeared" that we have in northern ireland
  14. When my older dog went to the vets as well as the antibiotic jabs, I paid for a course of anti sickness tablets to get her back onto her food.... Omeprazole 20mg, exactly the same as I take every damn morning! Same dosage, same packaging and manufacturer and everything.
  15. Hopefully the dog will be fine, amazing how much of the world seems to be edible where labs are concerned.... I got my backside smacked by the mods for putting a post up of a seagull eating a rabbit whole....I watched it with no sound and I didn't realise that the guy filming only had one word in his vocabulary and it began with F 😆
  16. Thats such perfect timing, a friend has a miniature dachshund and the wee mite is pure fun
  17. I have had this conversation with others about vet bills and as much as there is some rip off merchants out there... like the vets who are backed by financial organisations... by and large I would say the price paid isn't as bad as you think once you break it down. I paid for private consultations for my kids who required ENT surgery and the fee for the surgical consultation was £165 on its own for 5 minutes of the man's time!
  18. Swallowed the tennis ball... I think if mine done that the kick in the ring she would get would have it back up the way it came in! Seriously though I couldn't imagine the panic over that one and as you say they are no doubt worth every penny we spend on them. Worst I done was clearing my now wife's garden and javlined a big stick over the fence and their daft spaniel chased after and dived at it and managed to impale himself into the back of his throat, after the blood and carnage was cleared the vet just shrugged, gave an injection and said he would be best to take some time out and rest, that was about 20 years ago and think the bill was a nice 20quid
  19. I've a springerXcollie and she has had vet attention once in her life apart from her first round of puppy jabs. Was during covid times when vet bills were going mad, I'm sure I read on here of people being charged £100 just to get through the door. Her bill including emergency appointment, injection, ultrasound and antibiotics came to little over £60. On a good note it seems the pups wound is healing up nicely, likely will leave a nice scar she can be proud of. My late spaniels nose was a tapestry of her time crashing through cover 😄
  20. Thanks, at 10 months she's a good while to go before she hits more involved training and working in the field so I'm not too annoyed at the temporary set back., really wanting to take my time with her.
  21. I was pretty happy with the bill, I said its likely she will be back at some stage with more rips as her training and gundog career starts to take off 🙄 Shes turning out such a wonderful wee soul and despite being nervous of the vet...as her last time there in January was for a rather painful sounding microchip... she handled her wee jab without so much as a turn of her head.
  22. So my Lab pup has reached 10 months old and just had her first boo boo, she had run past a bit of wire about a month ago and gave herself a scrap on her back leg and all was grand. She must have hit the same spot again and it burst open somehow. Took her to the vet tonight expecting stitches as she won't keep a dressing on. According to the vet its pretty much beyond stitching and likelihood is it probably wouldn't have held up with her bouncing about as a mad pup so I've come away with an antibiotic injection and a 5 day course of antibiotics and instructions to clean with salt and water. I've added a pic of it just before cleaning tonight, I may even try to dress it again. How does a vet bill of £47 sound for the consult, jab and course of antibiotics?
  23. If its going to be downstairs it would be preferable to have it outbof sight, definitely out of sight from someone looking in a window.
  24. At that age mine started to behave a little like that with the biting. Persevere, don't despair. To me when the faffing about gets too much its best to end any training session. Do something small and easy that will end it on a high for the pup. Its so easy to expect too much too soon, wee pups head is maybe just getting a bit melted from too much going on. At 9 weeks I would maybe stop everything else and concentrate on that recall above all else. Don't accept the biting though, grip it by the scruff and lift it and plant it down somewhere for a time out. Enforce the rules, don't suggest them
