starlight32
Paypal sent me an email today looking donations on behalf of Oxfam, was going to donate a few quid.It is heart breaking watching the women and children sitting on the street in pieces.. Scrounging hordes? Have you actually seen the news? I am dumbfounded What amazes me is how easy people forget the hundreds of other problems in countries like Sudan and Zimbabwe, equal suffering yet not topical for the media. Regardless we cant sort the worlds problems out and mostly the solution isn't even money related. Frankly we have enough needy in our own country, the aid the British government is pumping in should IMO be spent supporting our armed forces or invested in the NHS. Yes I saw real suffering in Sudan a few years ago....... food convoys being exchanged for arms, just as in Angola and other places I have worked. Not saying stuff them, as it is not the population's fault, but it should be controlled to give more confidence to the outside world when aid is given to disaster areas. kingofkings
I donated a tenner to a well estasblished Irish charity group (Tracoire) who help out world wide all year round, surely if we give to our local charities who are appealing then we could trust that the money is being spent wisely. claypop
Sounds to me like you're all using excuses not to give to the appeal, ie charity begins at home, money will be squandered etc. This is a lack of honesty, surely! I won't be giving because I,m selfish & tight....period!
George1990
We all shoot to control populations, as not doing so results in over population. The only thing taking us is natural disasters, which in my book is Nature fighting back. Life's a ****, aint it?
Ozzy Fudd
nope, not a chance. i give money to uk based charities every month (one by direct debit) and will continue to do so, but i refuse to give to foreign charities/appeals - apart from the supposed corruption in the charities and govt's, its not my problem, pure and simple. Chard
I won't. And like Mungler said earlier, I don't have to explain myself. To anyone
starlight32
On the radio this morning the goverment has now upped our country's donation to 20 million from 6 Million. Funny how that kind of money ist'nt available to the NHS as well as other home based charities. I would love to been in the right place before an audience to ask that question to the powers that be, and see their answer.
MM
Crikey MM, you still not had that hernia op? Would you like me to sent the wife round with a denim patch and a sewing machine, she will sort it out for you! still here mate. got another 5 weeks before i go in. might sound odd to some, but i cant wait to get back to work. staying on thread, Barbara Windsor has just been on the box trying to raise £300k for BRITISH kids with muscular dystophy. Im sure the bods in power could find that much in their change trays. Thats what gets my goat. The RNLI having to fund raise. The air ambulance having to fund raise. this should not happen. mudpatten
The sister of a friend works for a major UK charity as a fund raiser. She is paid £50k per annum. Part of her contract is that her car is valeted every month. On a recent conference trip to Las Vegas, she was given £500 to blow on the gaming tables! All paid for by your donations. The RNLI has more money than it knows what to do with. During a recent refit, the lettering on the stern of the lifeboat was found to be a couple of inches smaller than it should have been. It was immediately repainted at a cost of over £400. And so it goes on. Will I be giving to charities? No. As far as Haiti is concerned. With any luck the Yanks will use the opportunity of having thousands of troops ashore as a covert means of invading the country and setting up something like a democracy. lister1
i never like to get involved in these type of threads but i think that with our government sending £20m over i feel like i already have donated.
henry d
NO CHANCE,not my problem, got enough on my plate trying to find the mortgage money here(havn't worked since october 09) never mind helping out some country that i couldn't even find on a map.leave it to the do-gooders.wonder how many of the 'victims' will end up over here, scrounging and claiming every benefit they possibly can,i've been told(according to goverment figures)£90 per week is enough to live on for a family of 3(food,bills,mortgage etc etc)so no we can't give you any benefits.so the goverment ######### and the do-gooders can cry and plead to somebody who gives a ####. You`re all heart eh ? It`s a corrupt hell hole that has been de-forested and most people live on less than $2/day TB/HIV/cholera/thyphus eyc. are all rife. As for saying how many will end up over here, well just have a look at how long it would take someone who subsists on $2 a day to get here either legally or otherwise
Dr W
I'm honestly amazed about some of the comments on this thread, obviously seeing 1000's of people flattened under rubble doesn't impact them in the same way. If you don't want to give then don't, no one is forcing you to but save us from the tales of how hard up you are because next to these people you are as wealthy as kings. Ozzy Fudd
Oh no, please dont bring religion into this, as surely this earthquake is an act of God's will, to wipe out the tyranny in Haiti, so by giving charity to help them youre going against God's will. Would you have sent money to help Sodom and Gomorrah? Edited January 18, 2010 by babbyc1000

Ah, we get closer to the real reason then Now forgive me if I am wrong, but Co.Down is an area that could be taken to be in a Christian country, yes ? Therefore I have to ask what constitutes a zombie to you ?
