I've got an email from someone I don't know saying it is about the estate of a deceased relative.

It has an attachment asking me to open it.

I've not heard of the relative before so this is all out of the blue.

I've not opened the email or attachment, is this a new scam?

How can I open the attachment "somewhere safe" as I do not want my computer knackerd up!

All very strange :hmm:

Any thoughts lads and lasses?

i have had a few of these the best 1 was from the caribean somewhere stating that someone with my surname had died and the millions where going to the goverment so they would prove i was related and we could go halves on the estate.

I emailed them back explaining that I was to busy farming my flying pigs to which there response were threats

My daughter received something similar about a week ago and when she opened the attachment, something with "Manager" in the title was installed on her PC, if it hadn't had a desktop icon she probably wouldn't have noticed it.

She ran AdAware and it removed 17 infections all containing the word "Manager".

I automatically delete anything like this, I hate to think of the amount of inheritances and investment opportunities I have lost. :hmm:

Oooooo attitude :hmm: , is it half term already, the aftermath of an all night session with Roy (Chubby) Brown or an Aptamil deficiency?

How did you get on with asking for shooting permission? I take take it that you can be civil with strangers sometimes? :good:

"I take take it that you can be civil with strangers sometimes"

Only intelligent ones.

Sorry I'm not being rude but this is the oldest scam in the book, maybe not always email, but phone or letter ect. I delete about 50 of these per week. Every one has heard of it and a guy with over 3000 post might of heard of this before.

I actually thought you were joking at first. :hmm:

I just couldn't resist.

Sorry

Best place would be to run it in a sandbox and check what external connections are made but i'll pretty much garentee its a remote downloader or bot file.

There are verious online sanboxes and malware scanners most of the time its a botnet file which connect to P2P networks or older ones connect to IRC based servers.

Yes I though that was a little sharp too.

Scams come in many ways these days and we don't always pick up on them.
