Vince Green
Good luck settling into civy street. It ain't easy and a lot of blokes find it very hard. But it can be done. just be prepared for a culture shock and it won't come as a suprise. I'm not being gloomy, far from it but a lot of blokes come out totally unprepared. Expecting it is half the battle. good luck to you mate

Lord Geordie
Thanks a bunch for trying to keep myself and my Lad safe! I only hope as your settling back into civvy life you never have to meet the dregs of UK society that will cause you to think "Why the hell did I bother!" Unfortunatley there are a lot of scum out there that make many MOD lads recoil in disbelief as they try to re evaluate where they may be better off. Add to that these lads fight to erradicate a fundamentalist cause only to come home and find those very people free to cause anarchy within your own society  Again many thanks and the best of luck settling back into our multicultural hodge podge
Zapp
Thanks for the kind words so far, been working for 2 months as a civvi now, so eyes are open, different world!! Yep, no more tea and toast at the mess, no more sloping off to "do phys" or any of the other skives... Congrats and good luck on the dark side TT

sodit
Well done TT. I did 20 years in the RN didnt make 22 as the Admiralty made a load of my specialisation redundant back in 1993 and now I have retired pemanently in April 2010. Blunderbuss
7 years as a Civvy now after 24 years. Whilst I miss some aspects of military life, on the whole that's a chapter of my life I enjoyed, but which has passed and I'm happy being a "fat lazy civvy" I'm happy doing what I do but have great memories of the mob. Good luck, you'll be fine! Edited January 3, 2011 by Blunderbuss
Gareth W
9 1/2 years since I left after almost 14 years and can truthfully say I have never looked back. Would have been 22 years last November. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

harrycatcat1
I wish all ex service men/women the very best in settling into civilian life as I have every respect for them because I would not have the courage to do what they have to do or have volunteered to do. starlight32
How does it work with military service? If you join at 16 for example, does your service time start from then or from when you are 18? What is the maximum you can serve? Is it different for enlisted men and Officers? I take it 22 years is maximum pension?
