GW80
Not sure i should post this but was close to getting a 2 year old springer done in today, the pup killed 2 hens in the neihgbours coup then procecessed to try shaging my bitch, who is not for the like of him, My cousin who owns him thinks he's the bee's but i reckon the spaniel pool would be better off without this mad *****r on the prowl, i reckon a call from the big rabbit pen in thr sky is in order, what you guys reckon? FalconFN
He's just doing what comes naturally to him, it's training he needs and if your cousin can't do it, or can't be bothered then give him to someone who can. As for getting his leg over, give him a break, it's up to you to keep them apart if your bitch is in season. If she's not in season there's been no harm done. Bleeh
Just sounds like he's doing what a young dog does. The first being 'Oh look! Clucky Feathery things' and chasing them about, only then to discover that they are also tasty. And the second - that's a bit like asking Ducks not to quack. foxbuster
Can never blame the dog mate-just the owner/trainer.
Paul in North Lincs.
............give the pup a break. I would imagine he needs more training to stock..fur and feather. p.s who donst like getting their leg over, when the oppotunity arises? WGD
Is it supposed to be a gundog? Any dog of mine that killed two chickens would be on a one way trip to a pet home. But it sounds like he needs trained, not shot... although I have been tempted to shoot springers in the past

WGD
thats so true i think its a disgusting think to even suggest take it to a dog home. Just to be clear, I was making the point that if it was supposed to be a gundog, killing anything is not on IMO, it will be hard mouthed so, if I found myself with a dog like that I would re-home it, to a carefully selected and permanent home to live as a well exercised pet. Not dump it in a dog rescue centre or the like which I agree is disgusting when the dog just doesn't know the boundaries. berties
Don't expect to get a positive response from a title like that, more training is required, to distinguish between a chicken and a game bird hard for a young dog,and riding your bitch well spaniels are a bit quick to move in,I am sure he will be fine, keep calm with him,

Tom&Dexter
First off its not your dog Its your cousins Is not yours to do anything with If you were supposed to be looking after it is your fault the dog killed those chickens and you should hang your head not post about doing the dog in for what you could have prevented. tweedledee
guys i think you are getting carried away here. i would think any dog that has killed livestock would have to be put down. surely hens are livestock of sorts.would find it strange if his neighbour did n`t press for it to be put down so theres not a repeat incident. We're getting carried away? So, you wouldn't consider training then? Or giving it to someone who can? First time your dog steps out of line it's straight to the vets? Just for your information; there is nothing in the statute books that gives anyone the right to insist on a dog being put to sleep because it has attacked livestock. That's for a court to decide and that sanction is usually reserved for dangerous dogs that have attacked people.

Un-believable :o :o I would imagine most dogs of a hunt fur and feather heritage would do the same un checked. I used to start my spaniels off in the chicken run to educate them not to chase and grab. Secondly, why wouldn't he try his luck on bitch. :o :o :o Edited January 17, 2011 by turbo33
al4x
so basically we have an untrained dog doing what untrained dogs do I've known good dogs kill chickens when left alone and be fine once they were educated about it, so basically rather than blame the dog blame the owner
