p-a-s
Looking for some help here chaps,i dont know what sites my mrs goes on but last night i went to go on the pc and a notice was on the screen saying you pc is infected run spyware,so i ran the malaware and no viruses was found but i still had this warning on the screen.I then ran house call, with 1 virus found so i clicked on the fix button, and still i had the warning sign. This virus seems to be from bunch of scrotes trying to force people to buy spware/anti virus. It wont let me run system restore,a new icon has appeared in the system tray it is a icon of a padlock, and when i click on this icon i got all the blurb trying to sell my anti virus. Thanks in advance. Cosd
What's the name of the site it is trying to force on you? You might need another pc to do it if yours is real bad, but put the word virus then the site name in google and look it up on the net. This wool give you background on it and ways to remove it. Is it "K Directory" by any chance! That can be a real hard one to remove but not imposible.

DOLLSEYES
The one doing the rounds at the moment is a virus called "Antivira AV".I had to wipe my p.c and start again with a full system reset.
cowboy1403
this is the same as i had last week.very hard to get rid.if you have another profile on comp it`s easy.just reboot in as a different user and you can get into system restore through that profile and reset back couple of weeks.the virus is located in the boot section so cant be removed once running. Bleeh
Go though system restore by restarting in safe mode with networking turned off. Another good option is to simply Google the name of the ''Anti Virus'' software that they are trying to peddle, and you'll find thousands of people who've had the same problem, and had been given the solution. Vince Green
It is probably unnecessary to say this but do not send them any money or contact them in any way.
jacksdad
I had a similar problem, I ran Kaspersky TDSS Killer, it runs online or something, so it bypassed the virus thingy....I'm no expert (no @@@@ Sherlock!) but I did it all by myself and it worked
Billy.
Sounds to me like you've fallen for the antivirus virus trick. What antivirus software told you that you had one?
mfletch
What you need to do is download this SAS scanner put it on a usb stick. SAS scanner http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html Then boot the infected computer into safe mode then insert the USB stick and double click on the SAS scanner Do a full scan SAFE MODE Reboot into SAFE MODE 1/Click Start and then click Turn Off Computer. 2/In the Turn Off Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK. 3/As your computer restarts but before Windows launches, press F8 repeatedly. 4/Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode, and then press ENTER. 5/If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER. Note: If Windows launches before you can choose a safe mode, restart your computer and try again PS/ Sometimes it maybe the F5 key
pimpkiller
ive just this second sorted that same fake stinkin anti virus thing. I simply restarted the conputer into safe mode, i think its f8 when starting up, then cancel any weird looking startup services in your task manager. when you restart and it dosnt pop up a windows update sorted it for me. I also run ccleaner and spybot search and destroy. Its my own fault for turning automatic updates off.
bruno22rf
This is getting really common now-fake spyware that forces you to buy anti spyware to get rid of the bug that its planted itself-if you buy it then it infects your pc enen further and will try and milk you again over time. You need the name of the spyware then you need to use an uninfected pc to ask google for a free removal tool and download it onto a memory stick.Run this into your infected pc and all should be well-sometimes you need run the program 3 or 4 times. four-wheel-drive
wouldn't it be nice if they could come up with a computer that just worked and you did not have to spend all of this time and money on antivirus etc etc my laptop keeps getting slower and the hard drive keeps running but I cannot find out what it is actually doing and I do not care I'm fed up of wiping the hard drive and reinstalling everything only for it to start doing it again in a couple of weeks I'm beginning to think that it is not worth the bother of wasting time on it at all. Billy.
I like Mac's. However if everybody used one would the sad people who write viruses simply target them instead of PC's or is there something about the Mac OS that means it is harder to write viruses for? A lot of people say it's because of a lower market share of Apple products that means there are not many viruses, but with a double digit market share, you'd think that there would be a proportional share of the hundreds of millions of Windows viruses. In fact, there have been about 16 notable viruses for the Mac, over about 25 years... Not bad going. One of the things to note is that Unix doesn't allow automatic execution of files, which Windows does. (I've not explained it properly, so this quote will..) User control and automatic executionMicrosoft Windows is well known for its tendency toward virus and worm infections. This is in large part because of the fact that MS Windows tries too hard to do everything for the user. Arbitrary malware often automatically executes when effectively unrelated tasks are performed. When opening what appears to be a Microsoft Word document, but is, in fact, a cleverly designed malware executable, MS Windows will helpfully redirect the execution of the file from Word to what is actually needed to execute the file. By contrast, Unix systems do not do this sort of thing by default. It is more normal on Unix systems to execute a program with the file in question as an argument to the program execution. Thus, if you try to execute a cleverly disguised piece of malware pretending to be an OpenOffice.org document using OO.o to do so, the operating system will not just automatically ditch OO.o and execute the file by whatever means seems appropriate. Instead, the word processor will just fail to properly open the file, because it is not the right type of file for that application. This document is quite a good read and from what the above came from.
Newsportshooter
Ive been plauged by that bloody System Tool Virus but have got rid of it. Here is how to get rid of your spyware viruses ... In Windows Vista and 7 1.Restart you computer and as soon as it starts up again (i.e the first screen you see) start pressing the F8 key until you get a list of options.. 2.Select 'Start computer in Safe Mode' 3.When you have the normal windows screen - select start (or the windows icon at the bottom left of the screen) 4.type regedit in the box at the bottom and start this application. 5.Open (expand) the HKEY_CURRENT_USER menu. 6.Find the SOFTWARE menu and expand that. 7.Find the Microsoft Menu and expand that. 8.Find the Windows Menu and expand that. 9.Find the current version Menu and expand that. 10. Finally find the Run Once Menu and open it - you should see a 'default' value (usually first in list with default written in the Name Field) if there is another value below it (ie another line of info) with random numbers and letter (that dont mean anything ie not 'microsoft' etc) then delete this value. RESTART THE COMPUTER AND ALL SHOULD BE FINE. Once all is good download MALWAREBYTES free software and scan the computer - delete any rouge registry entries it finds. ALL DONE
