njc110381
I went out shooting with a mate of mine the other night. Because I don't shoot shotgun much I found my mount was pretty shocking and I'm hurting my shoulder. I gave up on my Baikal O/U and used his Beretta Al391 for a bit and it was like shooting a toy! Recoil is next to nothing and I hit a fair few with it too! We went home with 78 between us for the afternoon. So now I want a semi. What's good apart from the Beretta? My main interest is the lack of recoil.
activeviii
Urika 2 with kick off, you know it makes sense. If i cant find a 6.5x55 soon i might go buy the A400 ultra and sell my U2. but then again......

In my opinion, a Beretta with the kick-off butt pad and the Browning Maxus have the softest felt recoil

kent
Winchester SX3 myself runs anything, very reliable, good handling and best value for money new semi IMO. Had a Webley 810 a while i picked up second hand good cheap buy and a world better from the hatstands i experianced it cycled fine. anyhow not being the best shotgunner in the world if i can hit them........... 0145wirbelwind
Beretta baretta and beretta you know you want too. 391 or A400 they might be dear but they are top of the pile
Greenhunter
While I agree that the Urika 2 and A400 are top quality I have found the synthetic Maxus to be even softer on the shoulder. The Maxus is so easy to fit to the individual shooter straight out of the box, which probably accounts for the smoother shooting. That and the reduced muzzle flip. Cheaper too! humperdingle
I have owned an Urika 391 for the last couple of years, and it's a great gun. I'd have no problem whatsoever in buying another. My mate has a Franchi Raptor 712, and if anything, the felt recoil is even lighter than the Beretta, and they can be bought for much less S/H. Simon123
I'd go for a Browning Maxus synthetic or a Winchester SX3 if i was you mate, great guns, hardly any recoil felt through both even with the heaviest of loads are being used, or a Hatsan escort ;) A local RDF told me the other day, that the best semi-auto on the market today is the Winchester SX3 especially for the money asked for them, by the time i said what about the Browning Maxus then, well he said yes their great guns but he's had a few back with problems. Even though he said that the Winchester is the best, you have to consider that the RDF is a dealer of Beretta, Browning, Franchi, Mossberg, Hatsan and Winchester, which show's how highly he recommends them Edited August 6, 2011 by Simon123

Peathag
The lowest recoiling semi-auto which I have shot personally bar none is the Beretta Extrema 1. I shot a number of pigeons out of a hide with it and the only thing I would say against it is that it is a bit bulky, but apart from that a real nice gun - Although Benelli claim their Supersport Comfortech is the lowest recoiler I have to disagree as I own one - it is the best goddam auto in the world though and I love it. If either of them they are too expensive opt for Franchi Fast Black which is a Benelli anyway - and use your baikal as a hide pole

JonD
Another vote for the 391 here. I have had one for about 18 months and it's now had about 15000 cartridges through it, 2 failures to cycle in all that time, both were due to using 24g loads after changing the recoil spring. I like it that much I now have another which is the 391 Urika Teknys Gold which with the geltek pad and dead mule type recoil reducer in the stock it's soft as anything with 24&28g steel loads. Jon. njc110381
Well it seems Beretta has a pretty keen following! I had the Xtrema once but it was too long for me so I sold it. What with the 3.5" action etc, I just found it huge (I'm only 5'6!). It was soft to shoot - no more so than Phils Urika 2 though. I think I need to save for a while. I really want a 26" barrel so second hand they are rare, and Beretta's of any sort aren't cheap. I may try an old Franchi for the time being. I can always sell it when I've built up more money. For the moment I'm on a spending ban and I don't think I've got £800 worth of other kit I want to sell to be able to buy one!

My main interest is the lack of recoil. I was toying with the idea for a while then took the plunge and purchased a secondhand Beretta Extrema (1) and have never looked bag. SOOOOO chuffed with it. Took a bit of getting use to, and was missing horribly to begin with, but now got the hang of it and have not put it down since. Coming into the game season soon though, so must get the O/U back out to get my eye in and get use to the punch again! Bit of a pain to clean etc. but more than worth it. Recoil is really non existent on 32g loads, and it will easily recycle the lighter 28g loads without any issues. Snipe.
Ireland's Finest!
Get yourself a Benelli, theres a few too choose from, personally I'd go for a Super Black Eagle. Great we gun, f all recoil and can handle any load. Stay away from those gas operated semi autos :yp: :yp:
Peathag
Compared to what else Compared to Beretta 302,303,391,teknys,Extrema 2,Fabarm Euro Lion & Euro lux lightweight,Benelli Woodcock,Black Eagle,Supersport,Franchi Fast Black,Hatsan,Webley & Scott,Remmy 1100,Mossberg 500. Some of these I have owned and some of these I have tested or just had a few rounds of clays with but certainly enough to form an opinion. Was genuinely only asking Like you, I have had or used; Beretta 303, xtrema 1 &2, tekneys, urika2, ES100, Benelli SS, SBE2, nova, super nova, M2 Escort Browning maxus, SX3 Remmington 1100 Out of those, I would have said the softest felt recoil was with the X2 or Maxus. Just wondering what else you had shot to say the X1 was the softest, thats all. Edited August 5, 2011 by chrispti

Swings and roundabouts I guess - personal preference and also the type of cartridge being used at that time.. We are spoiled for choice these days and the the technology is moving forwards all the time. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot the SX3 or the Browning and I never turn down the chance to try a different gun and/or design.
