Frenchieboy
Here's a thought especially for those of us that are of "more advanced years"! Can you remember what your first car was that you owned, how it performed and what you thought of it? The first car that I bought after leaving the army was a Mark II Ford Zodiac! It was a wonderful car to drive with (What I thought was) loads of power coming from the straight 6 2.6 litre lump that was under the bonnet. Bench seats both front and back were a great advantage (I was free and SINGLE then so that front bench seat could have told a fair few stories) and with a three speed colum change the gear stick never got in the way . I can't quite remember what sort of MPG I was getting (I think it was somewhere around 25 to the gallon) but petrol was a bit cheaper in those days (I actually laughed at my boss one day when he said he believed that it would not be long before we saw petrol prices reaching £1.00 PER GALLON! So come on Guys, what was your first car - If you can remember back that far?

jacksdad
Reliant Robin  Got in at the start of winter, swapped it for my Honda 400/4 (big mistake!) as I only had a full bike licence, was luxury, driving round in normal clothes, with a radio cassette, and....A HEATER Didn't matter what pulled up alongside me at the lights and sniggered/took the weewee, I was happy as a pig in S### The local kids kept standing it on its back end or on its roof so I had to scrap it! DSPUK
Got my first car at age of 24ish - been a biker up till then - This I think was a 1959 Zodiac -got it in about 1965/6- heap of poo - cill's filled with newspaper and filler - engine smoked - had it out did a full rebore/rings - went well - Ran out of brakes coming up to junc 4 on M5 - so put VG95 linings in brakes and Bedford truck vac servo - best brakes around when warm - heater didn't work - - for some reason Ford put in and out on matrix one above other - unsoldered one and moved it to other side - phewww it got hot then - Sold my Triumph there for 50 quid. This was my second car - a 1965 Zodiac Executive -bought in middle of 1967- Connelly hide single leather reclining seats in front - auto 19mpg and cost me £15 a month in petrol - very nice car -- was a total rotbox by early 70's and was scrapped when it was 9 yrs old due to rust bug. Just wish I still had Triumph T110 dave Edited October 9, 2011 by DSPUK
