MM
ok. im doing some hunting round for a holiday. I want to ake my son away for his 16 or 18 for a massive holiday, and have to start doing some research in advance. He is comming up for 14, so planning is a must. I was thinking of Tibet. The other one is Alaska, but he has done the U.S many, many times. So, Alaska or Tibet?

FalconFN
Not sure how easy it is to get around Tibet without attracting the attentions of the authorities. I can highly recommend Nepal though; beautiful country, fantastic and friendly people, mountains, lakes, wildlife and adventure - just avoid the Maoist rebels and you'll be fine. Newsportshooter
Not being funny but TBH mate if your boys like most mere mortals and you leave it till he's 18 I would imagine he would probably prefer you to give your ticket to his best mate so they can go on a proper road trip without the old man.... Newsportshooter
Its all about the sacrifice - oh and unless your boy is some sort of nerd or studying geology then Alaska or Tibet as places to visit are obviously your midlife idea of what a 'man' wants... bakerboy
What does your son want to do? With 2 to 4 years to go so much can change, as you so rightly say planning is important/essential.
Ferret Master
A good friend of mine went backpacking in Iraq on his own last year shortly after picking up his A-level results and getting into Cambridge. He also popped by Libia on the way home shortly after a certain dictator was toppled. He was the first British tourist they had dealt with and they had to make a new stamp up for him at border control. Think outside the box! daz2202
Canada . Frazer river salmon and sturgeon fishing. Watching bears appear from the forest to feed on the migrant salmon, golden eagles flying through, 30 degrees surrounded by ice capped mountains. I went with my dad for my 30th. Best holiday I ever did, will return when my boy grows up if not sooner Daz

Heilan Coo
So is this holiday actually for your son, or you? At 18, think Ibiza might be more up his street...... With his mates Eldest daughter (20) heading out there at end of the month to work ( 1 month with option of staying on). Threatened to go out and see her one weekend, didn't go down well Edited May 4, 2012 by Heilan Coo

Heilan Coo
I worked in Malia for 6 motnhs...recommend working away Totally agree She was having second thoughts because some folk, mainly her mum (understandably), weren't 100% for the idea. I just told her it would be better to go out there and maybe regret it, than to a few years from now regret not going out and trying it. (from experience), Had the opportunity myself and didn't do it.

Mungler
18? By 17 I was going away on my own with mates. The idea of going away with my old man on an extended passage of rights holiday as determined by my dad would I'm afraid have hit the back seat in favour of a Spanish island, sun shine, a few drinks and boobs. AVB
What about New Zealand? Everything you could possibly want to do outdoors - Huntin, shootin, fishin - plus all of the adrenalin activities you could wish for - bungee, white water, jet boats etc, climbing plus more and, I believe, even some nightlife if you so wish. You could stop over in Asia for some debauchery on the way as well.
