bedwards1966
Your post is a disappointing exposé as to how clueless you are about the royal family and the benefit they bring to the uk. 1) our royal family is the cheapest form of head of state 2) they bring in millions through tourism (think of all the tourists we get simply to see the royals and where they live) 3) they pay millions in taxes 4) they raise millions for charitable causes (princes trust etc) 5) tens of thousands of young persons have benefited from thinks such as e duke of Edinburgh award 6) the royal family has brought long term stability to our great country, enviable by many countries around the world 7) the commonwealth is also a huge benefit to us (without the royal family we wouldn't have the commonwealth) Need I go on? I would also like to point out how lucky you are living in a country with a royal family like ours, I wouldn't mind betting some if what you said would get you put in jail, flogged or even hung! I suggest you think again, hang your head in shame and realise how privileged we all are to have our royal family! God save The Queen!!! Well I'm glad you like them, but the times when they were important have long since gone. Yes, they pay taxes. Everybody does, the difference between the taxes they pay and the ones I pay is that they can afford to, whereas I work for my money and still pay the tax. Yes, in some countries they'd be after me for speaking out, but we now live in a more civilised country, where we can speak our mind a little more. I've nothing against them, but considering that they don't do anything for us on a personal level (any gain we have from them is purely because of their title, they don't actually put effort into doing anything for us) I still don't see why they have a different set of rules to live by. It's like saying my family name is 'Johnson', so can I have special rules please? Edited June 5, 2012 by bedwards1966

It's like saying my family name is 'Johnson', so can I have special rules please? You dig yourself even deeper into a pit of ignorance They work very hard. 1) the queen is involved in numerous diplomatic affairs as well as liaising with our government 2) prince William is an rescue helicopter pilot (clearly a real job and certainly worthy) 3) prince Harry is a combat helicopter pilot (another real job including getting shot at) 4) prince William runs the princes trust as well as other diplomatic positions 5) the duke of Edinburgh is now retired but did masses in him time 6) I forgot to mention that despite her age the queen has not retired 7) taxes are proportionate to income, funnily I bet you pay at max 40% but prob 20%, do you know how much tax the queen, and the rest of the royals pay, certainly more than you! This is like a scene from the life of Brian... so what do they 'do' for you? Well prince Harry has gone into combat for you, prince William will be in a position to save your life if your stupid enough to require his skills, prince Charles has helped keep countless potential hood rats off the street and not mugging you, as has the duke of Edinburgh, and the queen, she oversees the running of your country for you. What more do you want from the you ungrateful buffoon? Oh and they live by the exact same rules we do, plus ones we don't have to worry about such as diplomacy, having little privacy, and having to keep quiet when ignorant fools make assumptions about them which are clearly unsubstantiated and ill-informed. Frankly the royals are as important now as ever before if not more so. They unite our kingdom! Look at what happened over the weekend, what would we have been doing without our magnificent queen? Well you would have been sat scratching your ar$e wondering why our economy is even more dire straits and moaning about a corrupt or useless president who is getting paid too much for doing too little, probably wishing we had a royal family! libs
Right, dont get me wrong I am as patriotic as most but why does the royal cars have no number plates or road tax displayed? w Deershooter Shes the ******* Queen!! Rushjob
Right, dont get me wrong I am as patriotic as most but why does the royal cars have no number plates or road tax displayed? whilst working for 16 years for her as a crown agent serving in the Lincolnshire Police I issued hundreds of tickets for this offense . In this current state of economic problems we should all pay our taxes Deershooter So you were a traffic warden then. I say this as if you were a sworn officer you would know that the vehicles used officially by the Queen are State Vehicles, the only vehicles allowed on the road without a VRM or VEL. The vehicles used by the Queen off duty as it were are issued Vrm's and Vel's. It was covered in about week 4 at District Training Centre. And it's offence BTW. lxtav
The Queens offical cars are owned by the state and the Queen is the state. The government, which is the Queens government as she says "My Government and I" during the opening of Parliment, runs the country on her behalf and all new laws still have to be given royal assent before they become laws. She still has the ability to block any law she doen't like although it's never going to happen. Because of this it is tecnically the Queen that issues the number plates for cars and passports although the government does it for her. So she can't issue either to herself and hence the fact that her "Offical Cars" have no number plates, road tax and she has no passport. All the other cars, including their private cars, they use have number plates and road tax.

Dave-G
I thought the roads belonged to her Maj - as in 'the Queens highway' So she doesn't need to pay to use her own roads.

Shooting Stephen
Isn't it time we dumped the Royal Family? Heredity power is just wrong. Flag waving doesn't solve any problems (even those the right way up!) Funny enough I too consider myself patriotic.

Flag waving doesn't solve any problems (even those the right way up!) Funny enough I too consider myself patriotic. I assume you cannot read. Reason for asking is that you must have missed everything written in this thread re how the royals benefit us! All I need to know now is how you managed to write that drivel! Flag waving certainly got a lot of people together and got neighbours talking who were previously strangers so it's already cured some social issues. In answer to your question, no its not time to dump the royals, we need them now more than ever.
Paddy Galore!
i'm quite happy that the queens cars, along with the emergency services vehicles don't have to pay road tax, it keeps the council tax bill down.
