R_Hawlwy
I have seen a 30" lanber sporting deluxe for a good price brand new and was wondering if this would be OK for hide shooting. I am using an old 12g single shot at the moment and this will be my first decent gun any help would be appreciated. TJ91
I have used 30inch semi and o/u in the hide, no problem, you just get used to it
team tractor
Nothing wrong with 30" . That's what I use just open the choke if your worried about pattern . If your worried about length in the hide its safer as sticks past your faces more
ash w
I had a bettinsoli with 30" barrels and i found it to be to long for hide work. I bought a little cheap rizzine E with 26" barrels best little gun i have had, its the first gun i pick up when i go out now
R_Hawlwy
Thanks for the quick replies chaps conflicting opinions already. Its the length I'm concerned about rather than the pattern
TJ91
Don't be concerned... If tha gun fits, get it. I fail to see how a 30inch barrel is too long for hide work but a 28inch not...just make your hide 2inchs wider... You will adapt to wtever gun you get so if go get it Edited December 30, 2012 by TJ91
Alanl50
It doesnt matter a toss how long your barrels are as long as you can shoot straight with your gun just use open chokes, cylinder,1/4, 1/2, what ever suits you. bicykillgaz
A 30" ou is probably still shorter than a lot of 28" semis and plenty use them as hide guns, I had a 30" barrelled 20g ou and managed fine with that.

Dekers
Personal choice! You can do almost anything with almost any shotgun, its just a matter of honing it to your requirements. I use a semi for this now anyway, and as above, my semi with 28" is actually longer than an O/U at 30"!
bakerboy
I use 32" barrels, the pigeons still get shot in good numbers (when they are about) as has been said make the hide 2-4"bigger
ozzy518
I use a 26 inch barrelled semi for pigeons normally but today fancied getting the Sil pig 3 out. It has 30" tubes. 36 pigeons down. It don't matter how long your pipes are its where you point em that counts
Tod
If the gun fits and you can hit stuff then use it, dont see why you would need to open the chokes though, a 28" barrel will throw the same pattern as a 30" barrel if they have the same choke fitted, barrel length has little to do with pattern, a longer barrel has more pointability where as a shorter barrel will track a close bird quicker hense a good hide gun. Use whatever suits you.
Essex Keeper
I use both 30 and 32 fella for pigeons and ducks and clays love them
wildfowler.250
30" barrels will be fine and don't bother opening the chokes
BaikalsRule90
use a semi auto sometimes with 32 inch barrels, never bothered me. equally i sometimes use my 28 inch game gun. as long as youre comfortable shooting it, it dont matter how long the barrels are, just be careful you dont catch them on the netting as you mount, its easier with a shorter whippy gun. mossy835
i use a 29" and find it ok,
Fib new
Length of the barrels doesn't really matter to me when decoying. I like a semi-auto best for decoying-easier to reload in confined space such as hide.
