We have a Hoover washing machine. My advice would be...........don't buy one. Badly designed piece of junk. I have replumbed the inside of it due to the stupid places they ran the internal hoses. Where I could not move hoses I have wrapped them in Teflon tape so that they don't keep wearing through against the drum sump. It replaced an Electra that had run for over 15 years. I believe they were made by Phillips or Servis

When we moved into our house 13 years ago the wife insisted on a Miele as her parents had had one for X years (X = very large number).

We got a fairly basic model but it was still > £600.

We had to call the 'engineer' out after about a year but that was covered under warranty. It then died about 4 years later. This was when our

daughters were toddlers or younger so there wasn't a vast amount going through it.

It used to be difficult to get spares so you had to use their service people, when this happened it was going to be ~ 10 days before

they could get someone out to us.

We lasted about three days using a launderette before I bought a Zanussi on line for £350. This has a 7kg load, 1600 rpm spin

and 7 odd years later is still going strong.

The Miele had also started making the clothes smell pretty 'musty' so I wasn't evern that impressed with it as a washing machine.

Nial.

We've had a few economy brands. The last time the machine packed up we bought an LG. It's @7 years old now and the only problem we had was a pound coin broke the drum. This was repaired and it's still going strong.

It takes a massive load (ooer missus) and even plays a tune when it's done.

High-end German made Bosch (some of the cheaper ones are made elsewhere - avoid those). 13 years, 2 kids, and still going strong. Initial costs are higher, but you save in the long run. Miele are supposed to be excellent, but never used one myself. Great website for info: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/

Miele, no question no doubt. You cannot make a really good washer, transport it, deliver it, put 20% vat on it and sell it retail for what some go for. My current Miele is 8yrs old and functioned perfectly through the worst winter outside in a tent. BSH group Neff, bosh Siemens to the general public have dropped in quality over the last few years but Siemens is the next choice IF and only IF the budget wont push to Miele
