YoungShotJonny
the chokes that came with my gun were filthy, are they meant to be left like this or should they be kept spotless?
TJ91
Every part of a gun should be kept clean if you want it to last
subsonicnat
If you do not keep them Clean they can jam in the threads, and have to be turned out if they will not come out,, Expensive bit of NOT cleaning them, so the answer is YES:

Redgum
You can get choke lube for the threads, look after them just like the rest of the gun. Always check they are tight after cleaning the barrel.
Stephenedennison
Other than wrapping it around a tree in anger, as far as i know the only way to wear out quickly/ruin a gun and its' accessories is not to clean/care for them. Accidently dropped in a river, if retrieved and cleaned in good time, should not be a problem, although not recommended. Someone once told me that the second quickest way to wear a gun out was to clean it. Not cleaning being the first; implying that if well maintained, apart from springs and firing pins, you cannot wear out a well maintained reasonable quality gun. And anyway my wife will not allow dirty guns in the bedroom!!!! ONLY JOKING!!!!!!!!!!
al4x
Come on we're talking chokes here, if you just leave them in when you do a normal clean and then occasionally a little grease on the threads and you will be fine. I can't remember the last time mine came out they just get a bore snake through after use and checked for tightness periodically.
billytheghillie
I clean my gun with chokes in, then remove them and clean gun again, small bit of grease on chokes, replace them and jobs a guid yin
Jammer600
Make sure chokes have grease on the threads! They get hot!! So needs to be heat proof :-)
Robin128
the chokes that came with my gun were filthy, are they meant to be left like this or should they be kept spotless? Definately, and likewise the threads in the barrel and on the chokes...clean them everytime.
Steveco36
I always clean the barrels normally then pop out the chokes, clean 'em, grease 'em, pop 'em back in takes a few mins that all but worth doing I think!
Hamster
No need to clean them, just sensible precaution in making sure the threads are not bone dry and that they come out once in a while for a wipe.
figgy
Copper slip or lithium grease on threads of choke and wipe it inside of barrels and threads to protect the inside.I only clean my chokes about every two months roughly 5-600 shots unless gun got wet, I just back them off a turn after cleaning the barrels and can tell if they are ready to clean as you can feel the carbon when turning them. TIGHTCHOKE
Simply put - YES - you should clean and lubricate the chokes, it keeps them servicable and protects your investment!

GingerCat
Only takes a second or two to clean so do it everytime I shoot. No nasty surprises when I use it next

I wouldn`t advocate anyone take that advice, the chokes should be removed after shooting and cleaned. I speak from experience. I had a Berretta and left the chokes in without problem, don`t try that with aTeague choked Perrazi
OvEr_KiLL
i always take my chokes out first then clean the barrels and the chokes, grease the chokes threads and put them back in, every time!
