Teal
Following a post by Reece on the Charity Shoot topic, I'm starting this topic for people to nominate Charities for the 2013 PW Charity Shoot. This is the FOURTH year of the PW Charity Shoot and in the last three years we've raised more than £12,000 for the following charities: 2010: Great Ormond Street Hospital @ West Midlands Shooting School 2011: Orchid Cancer @ Sporting Targets 2012: Different Strokes @ Orston Shooting Ground Please feel free to get nominating, and then we will put to a poll some of the most popular options

neil3728
Could we give it to a small local charity, someone who will not spend the money on admin expenses, Or maybe have a talk to certain charities and discuss making a restricted donation,

bakerboy
The big Charities get the donations because they areThe Big Charities. I would like us to support another smaller Charity like "Different Strokes" as we did last year, where our monies made a significant difference. Finding out who they are is the problem or the Challenge
oscarsdad
Hounds for heroes - they provide assistance dogs to injured servicemen Combat stress - help servicemen suffering from PTSD and the other after effects of active service. bakerboy
Here's a start Terry AB http://www.charitych...co.uk/charities I have trouble finding my own bits and pieces on the computer, how you young whipper snappers do these things so quick I will never know. Thankyou, I hope others will go through it and identify a recipient. I will not be at the Charity shoot this year, but will donate my days earnings to the fund. williamr
A small charity please, over the last couple of months I have been job hunting, not unusual I hear you say however you need to see how much these large charitys pay for collecting,RSPB-£14000 PLUS ON COMMISSION,British red cross £14000-£18000,the box's of charity sweets you see almost everywhere upto £1400 amonth,so lets be sensable and go with a charity that will use the money to help others and not them selves. twitchynik
I'd also be greatful if the local MS treatment centre http://www.hertsmstherapy.org.uk was chosen or a larger umbrella MS charity such as the MS Trust or MS Society. http://www.mstrust.org.uk/information/ http://www.mssociety.org.uk/what-is-ms My other half was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and goes to this therapy centre. They provide therapy for people who suffer with all forms of MS including physiotherapy, oxygen treatments and counselling services. They also provide a service for those people who have been recently diagnosed and helps them come to terms with the condition.
Reece
I would recommend something to do with wildlife conservation. Perhaps the Penrith and District Red Squirrel Group? They're local and volunteer run, so there are hardly any governance costs. I believe rsrjerry does something with them. The group has done some good work in the Penrith area controlling grey squirrels. http://www.penrithredsquirrels.org.uk/ I was going to suggest Red Squirrel Survival Trust, but PDRSG has less money so they would benefit more from the money. timps
I would favour a multiple sclerosis charity as well. My friend has it and with a young family it is becoming increasingly difficult for her, I dread to think what it would be like for someone without the backup of good friends and family. Paul223
i'm quite useless at chosing a charity, however i do agree with these sentiments The big Charities get the donations because they are The Big Charities. neil3728
If we are raising a considerable amont of money could we not buy a charity something they are going to need and use, therefore secure in the knowledge that the money that we are reasing is been used as it was intended. bakerboy
Once again it will be a difficult decision, they all need "your money", and we, in one way or another, need "The Charity".

100milesaway
As our collective might is in the male variety, I think we should go with the gentlemens charity Orchid again. It is a much unknown charity and one of the unmentionable, unfashionable deserving causes and one that could be round the corner from just about any of you guys on here. from Auntie. Stealth Stalker
My choice would be Macmillan Cancer Support because; 889 people today heard the words "you have cancer" 42% of us will have a cancer diagnosis at some point in our lives 4m people in the UK will have a cancer diagnosis by 2030 1 in 4 people diagnosed feel isolated and alone and lacking support Shocking stats and the reason why Macmillan need more funds every year. They rely on donations for 98% of their funding. Macmillan helps people of all ages all over the UK - they fund specialist cancer nurses and GPs, dieticians and physiotherapists and build specialist cancer treatment centres. What is less known is that they give out millions in grants and benefits to help those effected by cancer, run support lines for practical, emotional and medical advice, train Boots Pharmacists, campaign for free prescriptions and hospital parking and provide extensive information to cancer patients and their families. Macmillan is a national charity but funds are allocated locally based on the specific needs of the region. Where appropriate they will work with specialist smaller charities to maximise impact e.g. Teenage Cancer Trust, Clic Sargeant, Jigsaw4U. Currently only 50% of people who need it get support from Macmillan. http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Aboutus/OurNotAlonecampaign/Ournotalonecampaign.aspx?utm_source=HomepageHero&utm_medium=OurNotAloneCampaign&utm_campaign=WeekOfFeb11
Nature in Mind
Moderators note: I have come across this discussion forum on the internet and was most interested to see this discussion. I am keen not to infringe your house rules and did not want to advertise what we do through the forum but I feel we may be an attractive option for the members given the online discussion about the charity selection. I hope you feel able to share the following with the members: Hi everyone - I have stumbled across your discussion online and was fascinated to read about the discussion regarding this year's charity selection. I run a small organisation based in Essex but working nationally called Dementia Adventure. We specialise in connecting people living with dementia with nature and give people a sense of adventure in their lives. There are only four of us on the team yet we have achieved an enormous amount in the 4 years we have been running including winning an international dementia excellence award. We set up Dementia Adventure after personal family experiences and frustrations with large organisations and charities (for the reasons already stated by others here). We have plans to provide a minimum of 6 adventure holidays this year around England including sailing holidays and walking holidays. I would happily tell you more if you would like further information, there is also further information online via www.dementiaadventure.co.uk . If you were to chose us we would ensure that the funds raised would go entirely on delivering the holiday experiences (our salaries and overheads being covered by other income). Thank you for considering us in your selection plans this year.
