I was out with my mate earlier on one of my permissions around 730,my mate was on the lamp and I was on the .22 rimmy knocking off some bunnies for the farmer(which he has asked me to do because they are messing with his crop).we had done 3 fields with great success,8 bunnies down and 1 field left.so we jump on the truck and off to the next and last field. We were there 10 mins and this new disco pulled in to the field, now at this point I am wondering who the **** is this, so I made safe the gun and started to walk towards the disco.this guy was driving slowly towards us and eventually stopped when I got in front of his car.the window goes down and the guy asked who I was,and my reply was who is asking and do you have permission to be on this land?so he give me his name and he went on about shooting in this particular field and that it was dangerous because his house was just there !now call me blind but his house was nowhere to be seen . I know where he lives and its a fair way away nowhere near where I was . He then asked my mate, what's that in your hands?in a shakey voice,is that a night sight?to which my mate replied , no pal it's a very bright lamp far wabbits lol.he then turned to me and asked what rifle I was using?is it a .22 lr .so I said yes mate it's a .22 bolt action rifle.he the goes off on one saying that the bullet will travel a mile and is not suitable for around here ,as I live up the road and that rifle is a no no,to which I replied,I have permission to be here by the farmer it's his land! I have been shooting for years around this area and this field and never had a problem.i have an open ticket to shoot on land that I deem suitable not you, but as this is the last field we will let It go and be on out way.just before he left I asked for his name, he gave me his name and told him I'll ring Bryan ( the farmer) and let him know about your complaint but if he still wants me to shoot that field I will,to which he drove off. It wound me up a bit so packed away the gun and lamp and went home . I am thinking about going to see this guy over the weekend and educate him a bit as I don't think he was from around here originally, not in a nasty way but just to sort things out. May ask him if the hmr is a better round for him ? Lol. But if he still ain't happy ill just ring the police and let them know where I am shooting before I go, so if they do get a complaint they will know its me

I would not go around and see him as he could make all sorts of accusations.

I would have a friendly chat with your FEO explaining that you were out shooting and this bloke came onto your permission without being given permission and proceded to give you a hard time, explain that you had packed your rifles away before he got to you,and that this bloke was very strange and making all sorts of insinuations.

It will all be logged and you will have done the right thing,if he approaches you in the field again phone out switch to video and keep calm, remind him he is trespassing and ask him to leave immediately ,if he refuses, you leave and at the first opportunity you burn it onto disc, and then hand it to your FEO explaining again that this person is trespassing and also putting himself at risk.

It will show you are responsible and avoided confrontation, and i bet he has a visit to remind him that he is acting illegally.

Win win

That is what i would do.

Unfortunately some people are just cock knockers, I always have a signed permission showing my details, the land owners details, a map showing boundries of the permission, where i can park, what i can shoot, what times I can shoot, a copy of my BASC membership and my FAC, twice I have laid this information out for people who have raised an eyebrow or concern and each time it has shut them up in minutes, with no reprocutions what so ever.

Just a fine point but how was me grumpy guts acting illegaly. Tresspass, which is what he did is a civil matter, police can do very little and you (rather landowner) can only sue for damage (none).

I know I sound abal but we need to know the law as well or better than the eejits we encounter.

Aggravated tresspass is criminal however so you could try using that one but your landowner would need to do this and chances are they won't want the hassle.

Ignore him and continue shooting. You have permission to be there, your gun is licensed, you are taking safe shots against legal quarry. If you talk to the police they're sure to want you to ring that wretched number every time you step out of your front door. I won't co-operate with that ********. Its laws invented on the spot to please whoever squeals the loudest. He's committing the offence, criminal or civil, who cares. Take his number, tell him to get off the land and stay off. Be polite but absolutely firm and don't get into any kind of discussion with him. Give his details to the police if you get a call out and suggest that they caution him for wasting police time.

You do not need to justify yourself or supply explanations when accosted by a trespasser on private property. Shooters should stand up for themselves and be less submissive. This walking on eggshells is a lost cause.

I know trespass is a civil offence, but if this person is being confrontational, which he is by driving onto someone else's land looking for the op then the police should be informed, also he is putting his life at risk,he knew people were shooting and still drove onto the land,if he is reported and you have the video footage of him being aggressive toward you( smart phones are great) while you remain calm and avoid confrontation, then the police are likely to have "a word" with him about his behaviour.

As for we all need to know what to do in situations like this,I have just told you in the first post I made.

1.stay calm, chances are they are filming you

2.film them if you can, use your phone, you might need evidence

3. When you talk to them make sure your weapons are stored away from them, even if your mate is holding them and standing back.

4.if you have to ,walk away,I know you shouldn't have to,but in the long run it will be to your advantage

5. Report it to the police, you can bet they have.

6. Let the landowner know,he may have had run ins with this person already, more evidence that the person who confronted you is unhinged.

But above all STAY CALM,DON'T GET DRAWN INTO AN ARGUMENT WITH THEM this is what most of these nutters want, and always try and FILM THEM

I had it a couple of years back. A woman walked over to me while shotgunning woodpigeons and pretended she was a policewoman. She claimed that the law says you should be 300yds from a persons garden boundary. As you shoot more, you grow in confidence and as long as you are complying with all legal requirements then just stand up to these bullies and dont back down. In a nutshell, stop apologising for nothing.

I can understand his concern, his house is nearby, you are shooting a .22 and .22s do richocet. He's got a point even if you don't think its a good one.

We are assuming the OP hasn't sent a screamer over his house. If he hasn't then this guy has no case to make. He is at best a busy-body and at worst and outright anti intent on causing trouble. Shotguns are certainly safe from ricochets but they are also a social nuisance even at some distance from houses, particularly at night. While we should on no account roll over to appease idiots and trouble-makers, we should show due consideration to other people and avoid making enemies of peaceable neighbours.

Did you ask to see her warrant card?

And if she had asked for your warrant card and taken your car regestration number you may well have been interviewed at their leisure!

Had a person complain about me shooting, a farmers field that I had permission on, a few years ago. First time very pleasant and spoke to him nicely telling I had permission and he could check with the farmer if he so wished, showed him my letter of permision and showed him my certificate. The guy want happy that I was shooting next to his propety but in the opposite direction to his propety. Spoke to the farmer about the guy, the farmers exact words where " ignore the daft ****wit, he no idea, it's my land and I gave you permission, if he bothers you again tell him to come and see me and I'll putt the ****wit once and once only.

Next time I went upto the field guy was out again. Went over again told him the field was being shot if he liked it or not if he had any complaints go see the farmer, as I had seen the farmer reguarding last time I had spoken to him. The guy started threating to phone the police just told the guy to crack on, phone them here's my details to give them I will be over there shooting them rabbits if they want to speak to me. He stormed off never heard from the police, and never had another word with the guy. I know the guy watches me with his bino's when I go upto the field

I spoke to the farmer this afternoon as I was unable to get hold of him when it all went wrong, the first thing he said was ,you had some trouble last night then? To which I replied yes who is this nut job?he said not to worry as he has managed to upset everyone living around him,I was left with a voice message on my phone about you shooting but have yet to listen the whole message. The farmer then said that one time his nabour was putting up a fence to keep his sheep out of this guys property, and apparently kicked off throwing the fence posts around the field dictating that the fence was on his land which it wasn't !so any way I told the farmer about the bunnies that were shot and he was chuffed, but when he asked me where I parked the truck the **** hit the fan!i said I was parkerd by the gate entrance to the field where the caravan and horses are!to which he replied good that's my land and I explained to him that I walked in to the first field, couldn't see nothing and went in to the next field!and two mins later this disco pulled in to the first field !!!hamg on a Minuit the farmer said!was he on the road or in the field?he drove in to the field I said as was walking up to the front of the vehicle so he would stop! Jesus if I did , I had a 20 min rant from the farmer about this guy trespassing on his land and was to keep shooting this field and tell this guy to jog on if he harasses me again and if he drives on to his field he will ring the police as this guy is harassing a legal shoot and trespassing , to which I laughed and said ill see you in the week far some more bunnies lol so we shall see what happens in the week!as to a post I read earlier about a wizzer going over his house there were no shots fired at all in these fields only thing I can think of is this fool saw the lamp shining around the fields and came out for anpop
