lou13
Hi! I was helping out with lambing on the farm yesterday when it came to my attention that there was a hell of a lot of Canada Geese in one of the neighbouring fields, I questioned him about them and he said he keeps having to scare them off as their a pain as they are eating all of the grass and fouling everywhere! I suggested shooting them and he said he had to get some special thing? Can anyone tell me if I need a licence or if I can just go out and shoot them? Because if I can he said I'm welcome to get rid of them! Also would a 20 gauge suffice or should I be using a 12? Is lead shot okay or do I need steel? What load would you recommend? Thanks, all help much appreciated! lou13
al4x
Steel and have a read and print off the general license, you are fine if they are doing that element of damage but get on with it before they start nesting on the ground

mark@mbb
I would off thought a rifle would be better but you would have to have aolq or geese on your fac

wildfowler.250
Why would you need to have goose on your fac? they are vermin. I would argue that as well. This refers to my other topic in general discussion.
Marc Z
urgh this kind of post makes me cringe. Well done for asking rather than just going out and being silly Read up on shotgun loads suitable for geese.
stubby
they are non native to the uk, can be shot all year round, and this is no mention of what you can or cant use, as long as its capable rimfire will easily knock them down, and probably get more before taking flight,

Guest cookoff013
if you are adament to use shotgun, 12bore , shotsize 1minimum, BB as good as, or larger. that would do the business than you trying 4s 3s 2s etc. you dont want to be chasing after injured birds, it does no-one any favours, and it looks bad for the sport. please read the basc guide, and or contact them, they are here to help you. Dekers
Get em nailed and in burgers lad, shotgun with steel or rifle, id go with somthing bigger than a rimfire though mate, ATB Flynny I think he was talking about shotgun, but as an aside............ ...and on the ground! I have not found .22lr with subs to be the best bet, but place your shot at sensible ranges and they work. HMR is fine for head shots out to 100 yards no problem, but not ideal for body unless strategically placed (17g V-Max) .22WMR with 30g V-Max works VERY well, hit them anywhere even vaguely important and they fall down, easy use out to 100 yards! bigrob
If I were you I would watch them flying in and hammer them in the air. (you may as well get some sport out of it!!) after a while this should deter them from the field where they feed. also using steel in shotguns is not straight forward - make sure your barrels are up to it. can't you tell I've never been wildfowling in my life !!! southeastpete
Search out the locked thread from a little while ago, there was a vid posted using a .22 air rifle. Did the job. Dont do that though, everyone will start having fits. I am thinning out some canadas at the moment too, I am using steel number 1's, and they work just fine.
