Azzurri
Friday at 11.00 for me also... Looking at the layout of the stands on cpsa site I'm really pleased they've given most of the valley a swerve, I hope it's going to be a decent shoot :-)

Salopian
Thank you Mr. Potter! No I won't be entering. If the CPSA keep giving me reasons to moan I will always rise to the bait. I think Deershooter is of the same opinion as myself .Incidentally Andy, I remember when the prize money for the winner was in excess of £3000, now it is dearer to enter for a first place prize cheque of £750. Can you remember all the brilliant sponsors we have had and lost? Thank God for Edgar Brothers who more or less single handedly have sponsored the CPSA for over a year now. Sad isn't it that Neville Jay ( Essex Masters) can outshine our National association and our Premier Event. I wonder how much Neville has spent on Legal fees, Computers and I.T. this year? If all this was not true I would have no complaints.

Salopian
Paulos, I can see the point that you allude to . But remember we are talking about our National Association with 23,000 members, some who are passionate about their discipline and have ample disposable income to assist their chosen sport (and they often do). It is a poor do when we (a) cannot attract sponsors (b) if we do get a sponsor we inevitably lose them very quickly. But we are getting a little side tracked here, I was asking how can you justify £51 competition entry and £41 birds only for a 100 bird shoot? Mr. Potter knows why I moan about the CPSA, because I hate the waste of members subscriptions and care passionately about my sport. But as Andy and Chard say , give it a rest don't get involved, stop worrying, no one cares, we just want to shoot, have our scores recorded, be eligible to shoot for country and county. But seeing the constant waste of funding and resources saddens me to see how badly our sport is managed, but how wonderful it is to participate. Catamong
It's hardly fair to compare a "one off" event like the Essex Masters to the English Open, as you don't need to be a CPSA member to compete in the Essex, so an awful lot of "club shooters" make it their one and only big annual event. I do believe that the CPSA are really trying to improve the kudos of this event, and as the entry is now full, with a waiting list, does that not speak volumes as to how popular it is this year..?? Doveridge is a good ground, not the best by a long way, and I'm not too sure just how exciting the layout will be without the benefit of the steep valley and the quality targets that can be presented there. I'm not competing this year, taking a holiday instead in Turkey, but I do hope that those who do compete all enjoy the event and shoot well. Cat. deershooter
The problem with the English /British open is that its open to all who are members of the CPSA, what would happen if all the local snoker club members turned up at the crucible in Sheffield for the English open snooker .You end up with the farmer types with a side by side an anorack pocket full of pigen 6 cartridges flat cap and whippit What should happen is the top 100 shooters in each class should be the ones to shoot the English/British open every one else should shoot county shoots Its time the CPSA listened to the members and stopped wasting money. whats the use of pull magazine? scrap it and buy a few pages in Clay Shooter for county results /fixturers ban birds only make every one shoot compertition (if you dont like it just stick to club shooting ) where money is not involved Make shooting more exciting get some proper sponshership for compertitions by having a compertition which is worth winning .Some shooters go to 3 registered shoots on Sundays to pick up first place .I am not knocking the good shooters who can do this its just that by the time you have taken entery fees (normally about £36 ) cartridges £20 petrol £20 £5 on refereshments a £100 high gun prize comes down to £20 -£30 back in the 1980's a 100/300 in down the line at Nottingham you could win a Ford Escort XR3I or a Landrover at the Englis open DTL I was lucky enough to shoot 100 straight in the 2005 English open single barrel didnt win high gun but first place in AA my prize was £72 the same week end the prize money in the English open Snooker for second place was £32,000 All them who are shooting at Dovridge this weekend have a good one I would of liked to go myself but its the only majour compertition advertised by the CPSA with no Disabled catagory could this not have been shot at a ground that was acssesable to all SHAME ON YOU THE CPSA shoot well Deershooter Edited May 9, 2013 by deershooter
