Gimlet
Hi gimlet, i heard someone on the radio suggesting that people who get a public sector pension, should have their state pension either stopped or reduced depending on what they receive, and the contributions they made to it refunded. What do you think? Other way round if anything. Why have a public sector pension at all? If it is purely a contributary scheme paid for out of the employee's taxed income it is to all intents and purposes a private pension, in which case treat it as one and let the employee take responsibility for it themselves. If not, it is state subsidised perk which is unacceptable. Why should the rest of society underwrite the pensions of the public sector? Are their lives and careers worth more than those of the rest of us? No they are not. Get rid of public sector pensions altogether and let PS workers provide their own as the rest of us do from their net income. In fact why not take PS workers out of the tax system altogether. Their salaries are paid purely out of tax collected from the private sector which generates all the money in the economy, every penny of it. Why pay tax again on income that is already funded out of taxation? It is wasteful duplication. Reduce public sector salaries by the amount currently paid in tax and sack a few thousand superfluous staff at HMRC, and return the cost of their employment (including their pensions, of course) to the productive side of the economy in the form of tax cuts. what a good idea and why stop there lets stop or reduce the state pension of those who have private pension scheme's as well. KW Why not? Everyone should have a private pension. Slash the size of the State by half so that people retain sufficient of their own money to provide for themselves and wean society off the delusion that the State will always be there to blow their noses and wipe their backsides for them. A good example, without knowing the man its wrong of me to make assumptions, but he is probably poorly educated and with no skills to bring to the job market. Add that to his lack of English and there is absolutely no way he ever going to be able to work to support his family. He is totally embedded in the benefits system and there is no way out. Plus, depending on where he lives, his sons are likely to end up getting into bad company because of the nature of the housing, stacking up all sorts of problems for the future.. There is a way out: a plane back to Somalia. We're not a refugee camp or a Hotel, why bother to be polite about it.

Well that's the practical approach, another genuine question is why was he let into the country in the first place, what was the reason/justification? He almost certainly couldn't have got into many countries in the world. Labour have a lot to answer for in this respect but anyone who complained was branded as a bigot. Social workers make a career out of throwing money at the problem. Edited June 3, 2013 by Vince Green
westmids1987
Don't agree with stopping all public sector pensions,i chose to work in public sector knowing the pension deal beforehand as people chose to work in private sector knowing beforehand the salery pension etc, Incidently nhs penisons contributions exceed that which is paid out so actually makes money, and has in the past loand money back to the government

al4x
I really can't fathom your political persuasion KW sometimes I think you are left wing sometimes right and then you get days like this when i can only assume communism is right up your street with an ideal of we all earn the same, get the same benefits, pay the same tax and live in some rosy ideal. The main query with your ideal is where does the money come to pay everybody so much money as the minimum wage can't support people?

Indeed - tax is a subtle form of theft. We accept it because we usually get something in return, if only something. But tax is going higher, and we're getting less back for it. Those toerags you scorn (both commercial entities and people) are the same ones who employ a big chunk of this country. If taxation was not so high, I suspect most would not be trying to avoid it by paying their tax in a lower tax regime.
