Seems rather a bit too relaxed to me especially considering the firearms incidents in Northumbria they obviously do not seem to be tightening up on allowing more firearms :(

Wrong force, it's Durham where the problems lie. Northumbria are a lot better than they used to be.

Why does 3-4 day service for a variation seem too quick? some forces will do it while you wait.

And why would they need to tighten up on allowing more firearms?, in the Durham case it wasn't the number of firearms that was the problem, it was the simple fact he should never have had them given back to him in the first place. His FEO advised against it and even knowing his history of domestic violence, alcohol abuse and suicide threat he was still overruled by his superiors with tragic results.

Northumbria have always been very quick

As for to relaxed?? why?

All transactions should be that quick, it shows they are doing their job, I had one a while ago, they rang to say I missed a bit of info off, I sent the required bit in and was still sorted within 10 days,

Just because they are quick doesn't mean they are not doing their job properly

sorry but been from South Yorkshire our variations take anything from 3 to 12 weeks as a lot of other forces in the country , it seems that Northumbria need to share there skills with south yorks :)

This is rubbish, quite honestly. What differecne does it matter how many guns a certificate holder has? If the person has already been suitable to have one so it makes no difference whether he has one or three hundred.

What are these firearms incidents you refer to? How were they influenced by the number of guns the cert holder had? I have to say that I'm not aware of any incidents involving Northumbria certificate holders of late.

Your first sentence ( I assume that you're using smiley faces in leiu of punctuation) isn't intelligible. Could you re-post it in English when you get a minute?

What on earth has the Monkseaton event got to do with how fast the police turn round a variation? Robert Sartin wasn't even a certificate holder and was in unlawful possession of the gun and ammo so I fail to see where the connection is here. The gun used was a section 2 shotgun so what relevance does that have to section 1 variation times?

Not debating John seems you just like cheap arguments your posts are contradicting to sense and as for for smiley faces try it if it does not crack your face it might lighten your attitude , rant over good evening... :). :). :). :). :). :). :). :) :) :)

With respect mate - what are you talking about?

Now now boys! Lets not derail another topic. Just because some folk may be able to achieve effective punctuation and grammar whilst others may not (may be down to learning difficulties, levels of key skills not being as balanced as others, simple keyboard errors or maybe a few glasses of wine/beers), people shouldn't make cheeky pot shots at them! It is a friendly forum and not an English test after all :)

Back to the original point, yes I've found Northumbria to be very efficient in their grant and variation process. Helpful on the phone, great on visits and speedy in the postal service.

7mths for FAC on Durham & they don't take kindly to you calling them.I called after 6mths and got a right rollocking.I mean if it takes 7 mths or 12 mths that's just tough, but What I do expect is to be spoken to politely.I only called them once.

It must be luck of the draw with Durhan as a few folk on here seem to have problems with them. My origional fac took 7 days and my sgc 9 days as they could not get hold of my referee or it would have been done within the 7 days. I have just done an address change and that was also done within a week including visit to check my cabinet out.

Looks like they're going to have my FAC longer than I've had it this year, change of address in January, SGC back in a week, FAC - 2-1/2 months!. A two word variation to change an action type (that's not even required by the HO to be on there in the first place) in April took over 2 weeks, 2 phone calls to me and one to my RFD!.

Just sold 2 guns so back it goes again for the 1 for 1 variations, God knows how long it will take this time.

By all accounts Durham are hopeless. Was talking to a RFD in their catchment and he said Durham are sick and tired of being harassed by BASC!Solution is simple.

Thats very interesting as Durham couldnt give a stuff about basc as I had a few problems 2 years ago (was basc member then) had to have a couple of interviews with the head of firearms which worked out good in the end. Anything I quoted from basc was replied with a "basc dont issue your fac we do" and right she is too as Ive never had any luck trying to use any info of basc to get anything from them.

Nothing but praise for Northumbria Firearms Dept. excellent service for many years. Very professional IMO. Keep up the good work. Many other licensing depts could certainly take a lesson from Northumbria :good:
