Chest Waders

Hi all. Looking for some new chest waders for this coming season. What does everybody else have ? Is it best to go for breathables and use extra clothing for the warmth or go for neoprenes ? The price of all makes varies quite a lot so do you go cheap and chuck em when knackered or buy more expensive ones and hope they last ?

I try to avoid using chest waders for wildfowling but if i need to use them i use either cheap 10 quid lidls or greys G series which i use for sea angling, these are not exactly waterfowl friendly cammo but are durable and comfortable. Neoprenes dont ever wear as good as their investment might sujest and i genuinely believe if you bought 5 pairs of lidls tenner waders at half the price of a pair of neoprenes you would probably be on your second pair or third pair at worst compared to when the neoprenes let the cold water in.

I didnt mind the plastic Lidl ones but they just disintegrated like a plastic bag does after a while, but then again they were only a tenner and lasted a season and half. The neoprene ones need "breaking in" like a wild horse though because sometimes I am worn out fighting to get them on first thing whereas the Lidl type are dead easy to get on. Also I once went with oxfordfowler down "Andersons" (a good walk) and he goes like a greyhound and when I got there in the neoprene waders I felt like a boil in the bag chicken

I suppose its what you prefer but I think I will be going back to the nylon/plastic type next time.

Regards

I would stick with the neoprene waders but get a cheap pair off ebay. As over the last two seasons I have had the camo pro logic and found them to be pretty poor quality considering how much they cost. the first season I used them they lasted till the start of jan before they split and this season they lasted until mid October where they split on the boot... so I haven't been very impressed to say the least.

I had three pairs of cheap Fladen waders last year. One strangely split right down the leg, another leaked where the boot met and I caught the other pair on barbed wire (not the waders fault!). Certainly wont be buying anymore. Will look at the Bison ones for this season. My mate has some and they look up to the job.

greys Apollo neoprene waders,(£150) will last for years! I know im a professional ghillie.

had a pair lasted half a season ... wildfowling is different to fishing.. no disrespect to you but walking miles in chest waders across salt marshes stood in knee deep in mud... they don't last long .. they wear out around the knees and crotch and the boots rot which is down to the salt water ,i now wash them off with fresh water when i get home and dry them of in the shed ...i find that they last longer ...

My Lidl's ones only lasted me the one season, perhaps I should complain?

Seriously, I found them OK and they very thoughtfully finally gave out on 20th February.

I have some Snowbee neoprenes but am going to try some Snowbee nylons, at least for the start of this season.

My neoprene ones were £15 from a boat jumble in Southampton, on their 4th season.

My 'fishing' waders are thin and the boots so hard that in the cold they literally cut a ring around my calf like a tin opener after a long walk back from the marsh.

I'd say invest in comfort but I was just lucky!
