delburt0
so lets see go just over the top! get a speed awareness course, go say 40 in a 30 then its a straight fine and points, which equates to its not about speed awareness at all its about still taking money but not alienating you totally you against Plod after all surely its the faster drivers who need the course most is it not. KW nice logic kw shame the coffers can't have common sense , still as long as there's plenty of notes going in the pot I don't they give a hoot ..... al4x
I was once pulled over for speeding on my push bike in a 30 zone. Had a stern telling off. Then I was stopped for riding on the pavement with no lights at dusk and was presented with a £30.00 fine! The worlds gone mad! the latter part you certainly deserved it
BRNDL
the latter part you certainly deserved it I wont argue with that...but I was only 15 at the time cycling home from work. Slightly harsh punishment imo.
Psyxologos
Only if you are inside of (I think) 10 mph of the limit. So, 41 mph in a 30 mph and no you don't get offered it, 38 mph in a 30 mph and you should get offered it (once). In Lancashire is speed limit +10%+3 miles. So for a 30 mile per hour limit the NIP is served if you are caught doing 36+. I just read it on the NIP my wife got yeterday Edited June 26, 2013 by Psyxologos
Chris Bb
There is not parity between the different police forces for speeding offences. I was clocked at 42 in a 30 and got a speed awareness course offer. I'm actually glad that I attended it as I did take a few things away from the course (including two pens, a note pad and a mug). I got zapped by a gatso that that was facing me. I wrongly assumed that they could not flash oncoming traffic and that it was set up to get the traffic in the oncoming lane. Epic assumption fail. Is this actually true? I cant see a camera flashing you oncoming? In Hampshire thry're all forward facing (Truvelo's) so that you get your face photographed, no arguing with that. keg
There is a myth that all cameras and coppers allow 10% plus 3mph. mr bangstick
it always makes me laugh when they decide to put a speed camera that is so badly congested that you are lucky if you can reach 10 miles an hour let alone 30. they seem to sprinkle cameras around willy nilly these days and they say they dont do it for revenue
unapalomablanca
i reckon if you get caught speeding by a van or other hand held device its worth a challenge. I mean, what a cheek to dish out a punishment without any representation, no witnesses, and no court appearance. So someone says you were speeding and you are supposed to just take it and pay up. Whats up with people? If you are really going like the clappers then its bang to rights, but if its a few miles an hour then i would want evidence other than just someones word. I want proof of calibration, fitness of the officer, etc etc. I dont like this type of justice, load of nonsense. GingerCat
Don't worrt Blanca, they can evidence al that and more, you can have a day in court as well but expect the fine to be bigger. Btw police don't get the cash, central government does personally I hate the cameras.

Now unless you can afford Mr Loophole, you'll most likely be dished out with more points and a healthy court bill to match. I did ask for photographic evidence and had a very nice A4 photo in return, showing the rear end of the car. Upon noticing the car was under braking, I thought best to cough for it and avoid an embarrassing moment in court! Sha Bu Le
Was caught both times by vans once in each direction, they can get you face on and going away, makes no difference to a radar detector. Right here's a question, have any of you noted when approaching a fixed camera or a van that people not exceeding the limit slow down to sometimes 10mph below the limit. Really annoys me when I use the A69 to Carlisle happens all the time, wonder if these people don't know what speed they are doing.

I got zapped by a gatso that that was facing me. I wrongly assumed that they could not flash oncoming traffic and that it was set up to get the traffic in the oncoming lane. Epic assumption fail. Your assumption was indeed correct, but i think you got your camera's mixed up. Gatso camera's are the old camera's with a square window that only take a picture from the back of the car, you can drive head on as fast as you like into one of those and it wont take a picture, they work on K band radar. The Camera that got you is a Truvelo, it has a round window, (this sounds like play school for those who are old enough to remember it) These camera's can be turned round to face either direction and if you look at the road surface before the camera you will see a couple of lines embedded in the road. As your wheels hits the first line the timer starts, and stops when your wheels hit the second, Time divided by distance = speed. And it will take your picture face on to stop all the bull **** excuses when people say i cant remember who was driving the car that day. Of course you still have 2 other options, Number one is never speed, this is the option i take. and the second is to put a black spot GPS device into your car, like a Road Angel, which will alert you to every single black spot in the country as you are approaching it, as "Safety" camera's, and "Safety" camera vans are only sited at Black Spots. These GPS devices also come with a laser attachment just in case someone happens to be recklessly firing a laser say a mile down the road. Remember your windows.. I hope this helps
spanj
its caused by anxiety and paranoia. nah, blind ignorance of the speed limits, I have it every day, dual carriageway with central reservation displaying national speed limit signs, 100 metres later is a speed camera, peoples speed passing it........ invariably 50mph. Drives me mad !!!! Edited June 26, 2013 by spanj

KFC
Many years ago the village in which I lived tried to get a 30mph speed limit through because it had a wide High St and vehicles regularly did 50-60mph regardless of villagers crossing the road. We were told that the village could not have a limit because the road was not dangerous enough. We needed 3 people to have been killed in 5 years. You can imagine how quick the local MP got that decision changed following the pitchfork and torch light demo. The Village was one of these places that had a main part with various 'ends'. The council only installed the limit through the main village. Then a four year old boy got killed just outside the limit but still in the village boundary by a speeding car so they moved it to cover the whole village. That memory stays with me so, as best I can, I stick to the speed limit because someone may have already paid with their life. I try and stick to speed limits and I think drivers who deliberately exceed speed limits or think they should 'get away with it' are selfish idiots
WelshLamb
Just been done for not stopping at a red light, in a fully loaded artic, in the rain. team tractor
When I was 21 I was pulled for doing a wheelie 65 in a 40 overtaking 2 cars ( my mates ) and told the 2 bike police I was a **** and I'm sorry :( .I was told to never do it again and told to go away . I was recently caught speeding in my van while on my way home from lamping with the hmr .I was drugs /drink tested as my eyes were huge . I was let off again which I was shocked at It's just luck I think . I've slowed down a lot in 15 years and rarely speed in my van
