nsi
Hi. Newbie around here. Got sgl but no cabinet/gun yet. I fancied a sentry safe or buffalo river digital cabinet as I don't like the idea of having keys that can be copied lost or stolen. However they are VERY expensive and only the top (large) models have digital. So I'm considering getting a 'normal' key operated bratton sound and then keeping the key in a smaller digital ammo safe adjacent to the gun safe. Would this 'pass muster' with the feo and 'common sense'? I know some people have key cabinets or safes and just 'look after' their key. I don't want it on my keyring so will putting it in another 'bs' approved safe be sensible? Seems ok to me but wanted to put it to you guys too. Cheers
welsh1
Just keep your keys in your pocket, safe in your possession at all times and no worrying about them being obtained by third parties. And now we all know your keys will be in the safe adjacent to your cabinet
Cranfield
If the gun safe keys are kept in a smaller digital safe, then that will also have to be fixed to a wall, or else someone could just walk off with it. My gun cabinet keys are hidden where only I know where they are, its not hard to do that.
nsi
Yeah I know a load of people follow that philosophy but I just dump my keys wherever when I'm home! Don't want to lose the when I'm out either! On the point of knowing my keys are in the safe by the cabinet; I don't expect that matters really as I'll get a BS7558 safe to put them in anyway! So if you break that then you may as well just break the cabinet! Lol!
nsi
Yeah as I say it would be a bs7558 safe and will be properly anchored. Edited July 6, 2013 by nsi

Amazed
My feo said don't keep your keys near the safe. And have a spare set cut and hide them under the floor maybe incase you loose a set
Gordon R
Putting the keys in a digital safe is fine so long as you get a very expensive safe. The normal cheapo jobs can be opened with a screwdriver or biro - see Mungler's previous thread.

Gordon R
You have to be extra careful with digital safes. There is a lad in Burnley who can literally kick the door in.
JohnFreeman1310
You can have a sgc for use of club guns ect then have a variation once you have a cabinet.( What I have read and been told )
nsi
You can have a sgc for use of club guns ect then have a variation once you have a cabinet.( What I have read and been told )Basically this. Regards the other points it sounds like my plan is fine. Good stuff!
welshwarrior
Perhaps it was South Yorkshire police 😆 Only 'need' a cabinet when you have a gun you can and seen it a lot be issued a SGC with outa cabinet but have to get safe storage when you buy a gun. OP IMHO your better to store your keys away from the cabinet ideal in a discreet location if you want to use a safe in that location that's fine but don't show or tell people where it is. mossy835
think you can have a sgc with out a safe you can just use your mates gun,
Dekers
think you can have a sgc with out a safe you can just use your mates gun, Up to two are also acceptable tethered, there are plenty of other reasons why he could have a SGC and no Gun/Cabinet, but not the question here! As others have said, simply find somewhere safe to hide them at home.

welshwarrior
And don't forget where you put them ! That's why you have 2 set one to hide and one somewhere obvious!!!!!!
besty57
And don't forget where you put them ! Exactly the reason I got one with a manual combination lock,
Dekers
And don't forget where you put them ! Exactly the reason I got one with a manual combination lock, Anyone who forgets where they put their keys doesn't use their guns enough...or their cabinet!
