Arrived at a barley stubble feild at about 3.00pm, to find quite a few woodpigeon scattered all over it.

So we set up with a nice tree behind us and about 20 flocked decoys.

As soon as we'd finished setting up this big yellow bird come swinging around and just went over the tree tops at one end of the feild and down directly across infront of us and landed.

We went over for a chat to the pilot who was a bit embarassed, because he was about about 10 miles from where he wanted to be, but had lost all thermals and had to find a place to land.

We dragged the glider across the feild away from our shooting area near to the gate, which was surprisingly easy, because it weighed nothing.

You can see from the second picture how far we dragged it as my car was originally right next to it.

Anyway it didn't put off the pigeons, because although we didn't get back into the hide until 4.10pm , we'd shot 42 woodpigeon and about a dozen crows by 6.00pm.

Interesting day.

We had to pack up when we did because I'd promised the landowner that I'd give the rabbits a hammering around the Manor house.

I think if we'd stayed we would have bagged up big time. They were still diving into the deeks when I was packing up, even with me stood there !

42 pigeon in 3 hours!! Oh the envy

That is the biggest bird I have ever seen! (And I have seen some big ones!)

It's a shame that it wasn't like that when you came Chris. The guy with me had never even fired a shotgun before, he's just got his licence and had got an old side by side.

He must have fired 20 odd shots before he hit one. He just started to get the hang of it before we packed up. He shot 6 woodpigeon and one crow. I thought he did really well for his first time. As long as he doesn't think it's like that all the time.

The doorbell rang at 8.00am today, there was bloke in a Virgin polo shirt, saying his hot-air balloon had come down in one of the fields on my perm., (I live next to the farmland my perm. is on). Wanted to know how to get his truck and trailer in to recover it. No photo sorry. Luckily they are combining and baling on the various fields at the moment, so I wasn't shooting.
