Anyone on here a jazz fan? I must admit, I have tried for many years to enjoy it, I have been to all manner of functions where jazz was being played. I have listened and listened, and at age 45 I don't think middle age is going to 'switch' my jazz button on. I went to a fairly pretencious wedding a few weeks ago and the bloody noise was everywhere,at the drinks reception, and as the format for the evenings entertainment. with no one showing any enjoyment towards it. Now put rock or rock n roll on and its a different story, I enjoy mod music, ska, some soul music, and any easy listening or ballads, I like Motown very much, but give me jazz, in whaever format and I just don't get it,

Have you seen the current trailer for Downton Abbey ?

it features a young chap sitting next to a rather po faced elderly lady and the young fella asks her

Are you enjoying the Jazz ?

to wit she replies with wide eyes " ohh is that what it is, ? Do you think anyone of them knows what the other is playing ??" Brilliant !!

Although im not a jazz expert, I do enjoy it alot. I especially enjoy some of the drummers, buddy rich, lionel hampton and of course duffy jackson.

Im still finding out more about the genre though. You tube is a real winner for that. Just need more spare time!

we went to a restaurant in goa called the jazz house, it really was quite ****! the singer modelled himself on Neil diamond, hours and hours of gungadhin stylee cover versions all bloody night long, and really poor food, tasted like the day befores leftovers all cooked up with a bit of curry powder, the day before happened to be a sunday and everywhere did proper roast dinners on a sunday, so there was broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower in my chicken madrass, the *******!

Not just you, I am the same. This just sums it up. I do like the Glenn Miller stuff from the war though

Dame Maggie Smith is a national treasure, and she is certainly on top form as the Dowager Countess.

I'm with you all the way on this one. I never got 'jazz' and after meeting the pretentious 'jazz club' type ***** who tried to convince me that i was some kind of thicko for not 'getting it', i decided to hate them and jazz. Long live rock, punk, ska, reggie, blues and mototown.

ps country music is pants too

I have some jazz mags.....

However - Jazz can be excellent - Try Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club De France for a bit of old fashioned fun. Ther's plenty of stuff that has rhythm and everyone playing the same song at the same time - Try Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong or Charlie Parker for some good stuff. Buddy Rich is good, but even better is Gene Krupa.

Remember that Jazz ia a generic term, bit like rock - There are lots of different forms, some of which are pants, but some of which is just cooler than a cool thing in Coolville

This is a personal friend of mine here in my humble little backwater town.

She is in a Jazz trio but tell me this is poop......I bet you can't.

Its her own song too....

This one is also an acquaintance from here too........you may need FB to view this one though.

Both ladies come into the Jazz genre but sweet and lovely.
