Loki
Hi Andy Yes it is - generally check security, go through your application, reasons for and where to be used etc. and clarify anything else they need to. Cheers L
al4x
Some do some don't if straightforward we only get visits if you are a problem. Otherwise it's phone interviews

KFC
Normal here. They'll probably check the firearms/shotgun certificate serial numbers match your certificates and check that there's no ongoing problems. No worries.
paul1966
i had a visit on renewal, only here 5 minutes, quick chat and a look at the cabinet and gun. caught me out really as i was not expecting him, he rang someone else the previous day and made the appointment and must have had my details on his desk and came to me instead, he did say he would come back but after waiting over a month to hear from them i was happy to let him in. reggiegun
is it the norm on a renewal to have a visit from the firearms?? just received a letter saying they will be in touch to make a date... first iv heard.. Yea, a visit every renewal, make sure you are not over your ammo allowance, just in-case they check. They dropped my CF bullet allowance from 500 to 200 to buy, on last visit. HDAV
, asked about stored cartridges etc. its a good thing really , so no complaints Storage of shotgun cartridges is outside their remit........ No restrictions on them unless you exceed the powder limits (many many thousands of carts!)
Barney86
My old FEO said he'd usually visit in person at least on every other renewal.

Kes
In Cheshire a few FEO's left and on renewal, I had a new one - security check, checked up on me - still (fairly ) normal, checked the guns - all serial nos and ammo numbers then promptly reduced my ammo allocation on .223 on renewal, agreed to reinstate when I said I already had applied and recieved an increased allocation. Got the guns I wanted and the slot for .22 air I had never used was removed. I got the distinct impression he was trying to restrict but could be wrong. Details are not wise on websites but I didnt fare to badly in the new slots department. Dont worry - its normal and if carried out with some consideration, a very wise thing to do. Scully
Seems the norm nowadays and I can't say it's a bad thing really, let's the FEO get a small insight into an applicants character and demeanour. There was a time when this never happened;in all the years I've had licenses I've only ever had three home visits, and all three at the time of my last three renewals. Back in pre-ban days I owned handguns and CF rifles, all without once ever meeting an FEO,and throughout those years I never had my security checked once! ordnance
I have had numerous renewals and never had a visit from the firearms officer. And have never heard of anyone else getting a visit it must be different in England. Edited October 12, 2013 by ordnance
