bazzab
Well shes been a true warrior. After having a spine operation they said she probably wouldnt survive and showing inspiring bravery and courage, she cracked on for 5 years. But her latest check at the vets has found her kidneys are packing up. So shes come home for 2 days of being completely spoilt. And tonight at 1700 she goes to the vets for the final time. I cant believe she wont be back. Im not afraid to admit im a complete wreck. Never been so gutted in my life. So heres to my little warrior, 1 of my 2 best friends. Ill never forget you pup. And we will look after your brother Jakey boy. Ellie (left) Jake (right)

Scully
Bonny dog....such a shame. No doubt she will have had a great life doing the things she was bred for and loved to do. The same can't be said of many. A mate has just had his Lab put to sleep after 15 years...he bawled for hours. Still a wreck yesterday. Cookie69
I filled up reading that, I know how you must feel. in September just gone I had to have Jimmy, my springer spaniel put to sleep, a month short of his 16th birthday. it broke my heart, I cried like a toddler which included the streaming snot from my nose. I to put it on a forum, and one chap replied with sympathy and said "Remember Rainbow Bridge" I didn't know what he was on about?? so I googled it. if you don't know what rainbow bridge is? and you have a pet then please read it. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CDYQFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Frainbowsbridge.com%2Fpoem.htm&ei=O2qgUsjRGYiTtAbMyYD4CA&usg=AFQjCNHN4AIf3wGf8xIFGiM05j3nWCtF-g
bazzab
Thats cracking mate. There was a poem on here about letting animals go that was incredible. A guaranteed tear jerker. Like the cry liked a toddler including streaming nose, same as completely.
steve_b_wales
My deepest sympathies go to you and your family. Yesterday, I had my 17 year old Jack Russell, named Cas, put to sleep due to heart problems and her failing fast. I am home today, totally lost. Seeing where she used to sleep, her dog bowl/dish, her toys and her food in the cupboard makes me so upset. Read this poem. I hope it helps. (I think it's the one you mentioned) If it should be that I grow frail and weak, And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this, the last battle, can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me, Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree, It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you, Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close, we two, these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears. WGD
Aye it's a sore one. You can only take comfort from the fact that she has had a great life and lived it to the full (being a spaniel... they all do!). She will be missed but she has been well loved and cared for. Sorry for your loss. And can people stop posting that poem please, my kids are asking why I am crying reading an "email"!
