four-wheel-drive
The problem with this type of film that give animals human feelings is it gives children/people the impression that animals live in groups who care for and look after one another when in fact the opposite is more often that not the way that they live all that rabbits care about is sex food and more sex and should a rabbit go down the wrong burrow to escape a dog or fox it will not be welcomed in fact it will be pushed out to be killed by the dogs. I agree with you, but forget the cartoon film and read the book. Richard Adams certainly knew about the life cycle of rabbits and it's his work before being turned into the usual bull**** by Hollywood. Dominicrobed
Brilliant film !! I remember watching it as a kid when it was first released and now have it on dvd. Just a bit a light hearted easy going film bit to be taken for what it's not
pegasus bridge
Great film ! I often entertain my lamping partner by humming bright eyes as we skulk around the fields , although I'm slightly concerned that this might not be as amusing as I think it is . Scully
Have a gander at the front cover of the current Private Eye magazine for a more realistic view of the John Lewis(?) advertisement.

shootnfish
I think its a good film. Many moons ago when i was at primary school the teachers organised a movie evening and they played that film , not a good idea as by the end everyone was in floods of tears including me even though by that time i had been out shooting many times with my grandad and dad. Our tears were turned to amusement quite quickly though as one of my classmates was stood in the middle of the hall balling his eyes out surrounded by a puddle of p!!s saying "mum ive wet meself". Grandalf
When this film first came out I and the Memsahib were struggling farmers - rabbit farmers. About 16,000 head at any one time. (Never counted all the heads as it tended to change from minute to minute). That film stopped the rabbit meat industry overnight. Took about four years to recover - then the trade would crash every time it was shown on the telly. Should be banned. Nice tune though... Wow that doesn't surprise me at all it must have been gutting, it's incredible how fast public opinion (with their sheep like mentality) can be changed. GOLDCREST
The book..the book is always better than the film. period Though we got fed up of it in our house when our daughter was younger. we seemed to have an endless loop of Watership Down or Dumbo on TV all the time...Never want to watch either, ever again....Still if it keeps the kids quiet. spandit
My grandparents used to own Watership House, just off the Down. I remember singing "Bright Eyes" to the horror of my housemate when I was cooking rabbit one evening

neil3728
It is a weird film. The song makes my wife cry every time she hears it. My kids love the film, not sure I've ever sat all the way through it myself.
oscarsdad
I think I was about 7 when I first watched it - scared the bejesus out of me and I was terrified of the nasty rabbits.
