not sticking up for this idiot as here deserved to be banned , got me thinking how do the smokers find there fags and light them up , this has always been a pet hate of mine ,my thoughts are they should be in the same category as this incident

Easy. You put them where you know they are and don't have to find them. It only takes one hand to take one out and put it in your mouth, Then using the same hand, get the lighter (also put where you know where it is) and light the cigarette.

Only one hand used. Do you drive with one hand resting on the gearstick?

It's a pity they don't get some policemen to stand alongside the queue of cars near each roundabout in Milton Keynes during morning rush hour they'd get plenty of nicks. There's a goodly selection of drivers oblivious of their surroundings as this is what I've seen regularly:

People on the phone without hands free, texting, using a laptop propped up on the steering wheel, doing paperwork using the steering wheel as a desk, having breakfast, putting on make up or shaving and of course the nose pickers.

Heck there aint much I haven't seen when I was on the road, one of the best was quite recent in the outside lane of the M56 with a little kiddy loose in the front - while texting !!! Finally to just to cut off in front of other drivers onto an exit at last minute (still texting), I still cannot quite credit she made it. No hands on the wheel while traveling forwards at any real speed should be a ban unless you are in a specially adapted car, an object in the road or a blow out and your done for heaven forbid you hurt or kill another but it happens

The M56 seems to attract the clowns , I once saw 2 lads changing a wheel in the outside lane on the M56 during the evening rush hour, don't know if they managed it before somebody ploughed into them

Been driving hgv for quite a few years.

the things you see people doing whilst behind the wheel, well you wouldn't believe me.

Seen a mother breastfeeding her infant behind the wheel, seen 14 people in a zafira in Bradford

and seen so many people watching films with their feet on the dash I have lost count.

Get caught then say it was a moment of stupidity and promise never to do it again.

Bans should be alot longer and then made to resit extended test.

This is purely theory but....

Most cars are fitted with power stearing so, if you was travelling in a straight line with no hands on the stearing wheel and you did have a blow out what would happen? The stearing has no input from the user, the only thing what would cause the wheels to changeddirection is the blowout, how much would it effect that?

Say you hit a pothole or a bump, at speed would you really notice it? Unless it was a ramp or similar?

Pilots fly without full control all the time don't they?

What about birds, other planes, turbulence, superman etc

In my opinion although the driver was a tad silly there are much worse things which aren't punishable. For example people with no breakdown coverage or plan on motorways, people driving when exhausted, people driving with really loud music etc

TBH i feel for the guy, i mean its difficult to balance the cup of coffee(especially those **** cardboard motorway service things that masquerade for cups) while shaving. Now its a good thing that shaving only takes one hand because rolling a fag can be done one handed....... and well its rude not too. Where it gets even more complicated is when you have to balance the mobile against your ear too, whilst not forgetting to let the bacon sarnie not go cold.
