john m
Had a conversation with a chap at work today who maintains you can kill a Fox with an air rifle via a head shot. I am not convinced that an air rifle is enough gun for a clean kill, am i right?

SSS
It's not the right thing to do, but I have a friend who has killed 2 with his .177. Direct head shot from a very close range. Not something I'd do personally. This subject has been covered before
team tractor
It will do it but it can easily go so wrong. I wouldn't do it but have known others succeed . Personally 12g or hmr is entry level
Jim_gsxr1000
Could be done but pretty stupid as it could cause the fox a lot of pain and un needed suffering, 50G of number ones on a full choke performs exceptionally and if your a good shot rarely requires the second barrel
bornfree
I would the best way to kill a fox with an air rifle would be to hit it over the head with it

theosmith
there are air guns out there far superior than some powder burners. also there is actually no legal requirment in terms of power and calibre must just be humane so yes its legal altho police firearms dept will stipulate there own minimum calibre with a fac rated rifle , so basically sub 12 is legal
bullet boy
It's not the tool for the job is my answer!
robbiep
Will a perfectly placed pellet, from a sub-12 air rifle, at a very close range, drop a fox ? Yes. But ... Let's put it this way. If I ever discovered that someone who shoots on my fields had done this, I'd kick them off instantly. It's not humane, it's not the correct tool for the job. It shows an absolute lack of responsibility. Now, those are my opinions. I'm sure a few will disagree. Feel free. Even in a cage trap (so end of barrel to fox head 1 foot or less, the absolute minimum is a .410 or a .22LR
