Frustrating Decoying

Friday was a wash out so we were looking forward to a good Saturday, so we set out looking after approx sixty miles we had found small pockets of birds not feeding just sitting in trees. We set off to another area and went to see the rape ,when we arrived we scanned the field and all we could see was a few in the oak tree at the far edge of the field . As we watched they were dropping in on the rape after about ten minutes they had all dropped in but no birds were joining them on the deck. As we watched a passenger plane past low overhead and the field erupted with a good two hundred birds lifting off. They went to the trees and just sat tight. As we watched they started to drop in again so we decide to give it ago and made the long trek across the field to the far side , as we did the birds lifted out of the trees and went off with the wind. We set up with ten birds on spikes and two on the magnet. First bird in flaired at about seventy yards the second did the same so we looked at the hide , decoys and all our gear to make sure that nothing was going to put them off. The clonclusion we came to was that the wind was so rough that they did not want to commit to the decoys even though they had landed here before. We took the magnet down and they started to come into the pattern but were still spooky. At about 16.00 the beaters started to shoot the roosts around us and it gave us a small amount of sport later on , we packed up at 17.00 and picked up fiftyseven birds but it was a very frustrating days pigeon shooting

good choice of title PC, your face says it all :) even the dog is sensing your bad mood

only kidding fella the bag is one that most of us would be happy with at the minute :good:

Ayup mate I have been roost shooting today and come back with one pigeon and I am chuffed to death with that, it was so windy it would blow your wig off and the birds were doing 90 miles an hour over the top of the trees.

Well done to the OP :good:

Regards

Great shooting pc, birds have finally moved from acorns to cover strips on my permissions and still none on the rape yet,, I only managed 9 and a crow this afternoon on a cover strip. It was also the same for us the wind made it difficult for them to land so they didn't really decoy but it was great fun.

Not always a numbers game but just getting it right and tricking the birds is enough for me.

Roll on next weekend

Well done mate. I was looking forward to having a go tomorrow but after a learner driver crashed into my Landy this evening (most likely a write off) it looks like I will be spending the day on the phone trying to sort it all out. Very annoying to say the least

Hard luck mate, what were they driving to write off you Landy. All the best with the insurance . If you need driving to you're permissions next Sunday give me a bell and I will be in touch.

57 pigeons shot and you and the dog look as miserable as sin, what would it take to make you smile? I would be doing cart wheels if I managed to bag that many birds in one sitting <_<<_<

No we've both got a touch of wind, and were not sure you did the last one??????????????

Or I've been taking this thinking like a pigeon too far as the birds are on rape so my diet of five pounds of sprouts is having an effect???????????

Not only are you the guv'nor when it comes to pigeon shooting, you are also a true country gent with your kind offer.

My motor's a bit low on diesel, so if you could pick me up about about 8, my permission is only a 10 minute drive and the rest of the days yours. Cheers in advance.

Regards.

I might be busy Sunday running Ben around , but from your title ( Fat Bloke) if its a ten minute drive you could walk it in twenty to your advantage. If still need a lift bell me.
