buying sofas, opinions please

After visiting all the sofas places for ages we couldn't find what we wanted.

We ended up in a local upholstery company who are making our design of sofa from scratch for not a lot more than an off the shelf model from DFS.

I chose all the measurements even down to the 10 inch wide flat arms to rest my laptop on

We had settled on a suite from a large store, but the salesman went off to answer his phone. We looked through the catalogue, whilst he was away and got the makers details. We visited the factory on the way home and got it for less than half price.

Love that!

Being ex furniture industry I knew all the prices, always worried me when you saw how much mark up they got back then. Know some places are really knocking their mark up down to make sales at the moment but when I was in the trade people all were in their Jag's enjoying themselves.

Just don't buy any sofas with fibre filled cushions as they are gonna go flat very quickly. If you buy a fixed seat sofa make sure you sit on each side alternately or you will end up with 1 soft cushion and a hard one. Other that that you should be ok.

I do upholstery for a living. Good luck

The thread is over a year old....

When my ex-wife and I first got married we paid an absolute fortune for a suite that didn't last anytime at all. Since then my view of suites has been the same as my subsequent view of women. Don't spend a lot and replace when they get a bit saggy
