ditchman
A reality check for certain people....hopefully it will focus politicians into making promises they will keep (which will be a first) Edited May 23, 2014 by ditchman

figgy
The main two parties can never be trusted to stick to their promises as they have lied to the populace many times saying they will deliver on their promises only to do as they please upon being elected. Time to give UKIP a chance. Figgy

Harnser
Don't you just love it when the press put to the leaders of the councils that they have lost control of the council ,and they reply with some stupid retort that although they lost control ,they didn't really lose the election . All politicians make me gag , I think that these results will make the Tories and the Labour Party make more and more promises that they cannot keep after the next general election . A nice kick up the bum for the main party's . Harnser

Gordon R
matone - you have a valid point. I have the opinion that the three people who run the main parties don't care or listen. Nigel, at least, gives the impression that he is in touch and actually listening.

kdubya
the torys took a real kicking whats the betting 6 months from now you wont be able to tell them apart from ukip. er and liebor took a good kicking as well,my town now has ukip councilors, one of them in a ward that literally would vote for monkey if it was liebor, YET that ward gave up on the usual and why? (mods this is not trying to be inflammatory it is simply a fact) simple they have allowed the building of a whoping great mosque, in the ward, yet there is no large local population of worshipers(yet) to use it,oh and its opposite one of the nicest churches in town, the council rejected any opposition, now they are starting to reap their rewards. On results declared still less than 5% of seats won by UKIP. 5% does not constitute any sort of majority by any stretch of the imagination. Not having a go at the result or anyone's voting preference, but it is still very much a small minority, albeit with a strong sense of feeling. The important thing is that a small minority made their voices heard in a very big way and in many respects that is to be applauded.

EDIT: Welsh1, I agree entirely, for UKIP and their supporters it was a fantastic showing. My last point was just to say that based on the current results UKIP are not the voice of a silent majority, or any majority for that matter. It is important to make that distinction, at least to my mind. Edited May 23, 2014 by grrclark

grrclark
Ukip took votes from Labour and the Tories but Labour's shrinking vote was shored up by defecting Lib/Dems. Have you seen analysis to back that up Gimlet or just a punt? Not challenging, just interested. I couldn't see the traditional Lib Dem vote being lost to UKIP, but did consider that some of the Lib Dem showing from last time round was perhaps a floating vote of protest against the big 2. lexikia
UKIP is a waste of a vote, the general election is the proof of the pudding. After being a life long Labour voter, I would never vote for this shower of **** until they get a decent leader. Only 2 party's to vote, and for me Tory's must get in power next year. Gorden Brown should be arrested and tried for gross misconduct of the UK ecomony. Get rid of 2 faced Clegg, what a hypocritical ******. Fracking is the future and the Tory's will always support the Shooting / Hunting community.
krugerandsmith
What do think of the results so far then? Well done to everyone who voted UKIP...... Perhaps Cameron will now do as the people ask and bring forward a vote on Europe .....I can hear the phone call to Merkel now (" Angie I know we have discussed this before during your last two visits to number ten but ..... our plan to offer the people a bit more providing I get re-elected is not going to work.
