Joshcup11
I recently went out and bought my self a land rover shooting truck, been using it for a few days and the land owner came to me and said i was not allowed to use it on the land due to insurance unless i had my father with me. (I am 15) Does anyone know of any shooting insurance providers (basc, cpsa) ect that provide insurance for use of motor vehicles on land if its used for shooting or conservation? And does anyone have any ideas on how i can re approach the land owner? My father is mainly working away and doesnt shoot as much anymore. Bit peed off as it may turn out to be a waste of hard earned money! Thanks Josh
Fisherman Mike
I think you will find it near impossible to insure at 15 to drive unaccompanied on private land. The Landowner at his discretion could let you as long as the risk of personal injury is solely yours but obviously he's worried about potential damage to his property, livestock or members of the public who might happen to be on the land and what the consequences and responsibilities of this might be. Joshcup11
I agree completely! I think it would be easier to understand if you saw the permission i am talking about. It is a roadway surrounded by around 7 or 8 fields. I only go shooting when no one is at work and other than a farm yard at the end of the roadway and our house at the other end there is nothing about to hit really..! But thankyou for your input Josh

Joshcup11
Would they cover me?bearing in mind i am only 15 and dont even hold a provisional license, without sounding big headed i regard my self as a safe and cautious driver over any terrain, even dad is jealous Thanks Josh
HDAV
NFU best bet at 16 you can drive agricultural vehicles under a certain width (tractor) no age limit on private land but insurers unlikely to touch an unqualified driver. A quad would probably have been better and easier to get insurance on. https://www.gov.uk/learning-to-drive-a-tractor-or-specialist-vehicle/age-limits This applies to road use Edited May 30, 2014 by HDAV

Joshcup11
I asked his father a while back,(Family owned farm) but it now appears that him and his father have fallen out,not a good term to be on when doing something that the other person gave you permision to do.. Big Mat
With regards to the insurance, your age and lack of driving licence will be a major stumbling point

goober
Could try NFU for insurance? I thought at fifteen you could drive on private property(tractors/vehicles)but maybe the rules have changed since I was younger.

foxy bingo
the farmer may be talking about his own insurance on the farm a young lad driving about could put his premiums up
norfolk dumpling
I would be very surprised if you will find any insurer to take you on until you have a licence to drive. This was my job until recently. The only exception I can recall where we granted such an exception was in the case of a substantial connection ie they paid us £,000's in premiums and we did a favour for a youngster with an ATV ona big estate. Sorry.

marsh man
If the owner of the land said no., then no it is, having permission to shoot his land at 15 is worth more than the hassle in walking a fair way to where you intend shooting the pigeons. If you lost the right to be there you might find it harder to find some where else to go shooting by yourself at your age than getting insurance for a 4 x 4 , look after what you have got first , cars can wait a bit longer.............Good Luck... Joshcup11
Thanks. I used to have a quad and he had no problems but surely you could do the same amount of damage on a quad as a truck?well near abouts anyway Josh
Joshcup11
Thanks for all your help,i only use the truck on my own for pigeon shooting or early morning rabbiting, any other time I used it is with dad ie going lamping ect. I could always twist his arm and get him to drop me and my gear off and then get him to pick me back up. Thanks for everyones advice! camojohn
You could try Adrian Flux. They do 4x4 off road insurance. http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/4x4/?rw.cm=GOOGLE,PPC,4x4&gclid=CMf5o4rd2L4CFWf3wgodTA4Axw Not quite the same thing, but I have a Landrover freelander van with extra seats fitted, and they were the only firm that would insure it. lloydi73
How much did you pay for the land rover? I need to buy one and would consider buying it off you. You could then buy a quad?!?
